I9 7940x question

I’m getting a bit confused with all the modern OC options, I’ve read several x299 primers, but a couple of things are still not clear with me, can someone please help me, by confirming if my understanding is correct:

my processor is the i9 7940x > standard 3.1Ghz > all cores turbo 3.9Ghz > 1 core turbo max 4.3Ghz
With optimized defaults and 4Gh ram profile (got Patriot Viper 4400 CL19) my system runs 100% stable.

Question 1: is there a setting that makes ALL CORES run at the “turbo max” freq? While still keeping all energy savings (running 1.1Ghz when idle, only taking 0.9v) ? I don’t want a constant 4.3Gh OC
Question 2: air cooling, noise and heat are obviously the limiting factors here, understanding Skylake get’s quite hot, what kind of OC range is heat/eco friendly (read close to stock voltages) while still giving a small real world performance boost?
Question 3: if going for all cores, do i then need to remove the turbo max app from intel in Win10?

Sorry for the noob questions, just trying to understand if there is real world headroom, while keeping things cool & quiet. Not interested in max OC’s / benchmarks.

Hi,
Depends on mother board as to what bios options you have

Start out with the last first
Yes disable Intel boatware Jp made a nice post on how to that one easily might also respond to your other power saving inquiries too at the same time

Quote:
remove INtel Turbo Boost 3.0...
Here's a proper way to disable the application (with device driver intact).
1. RIght-click on the tray icon, and disable it.
2. Open Task Scheduler and disable Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0

3. Open Command Prompt and type “sc config ITBMService start= disabled”
4. Reboot.
Now back into bios and disable EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep), and Enable SpeedSHIFT.
F10 to save and reboot.
All core and set the multiplier at what ever, your example is 43 so we'll go with that
Core voltage = Adaptive
Offset = + Auto
Additional turbo voltage = set to 1.150v

Thnx! i’ve got a MSI X299 Raider, MSI names things a bit differently in BIOS. I’ll have a look
Where do most 7904x’s land when not going crazy on voltage? 4Ghz?

Hi,
Heat usually dictates everything
Delidding the chip is the norm but also flushes a Intel 3 year warranty down the toilet.

Just have to test your cpu cooler it will limit both clocks and voltage.

All core 45 at manual voltage 1.180v should be doable for benchmarks.
Input voltage if you run into it peg it at 1.8v

Hi,
Usually if you have a fat32 usb connected you can use F12 key maybe F11 to take a screen shot of what you're looking at and it's saved to the usb.
Then just open these saved images as png/ jpeg in free gimp/.. and upload here. bmp files do not show up here.
But yeah there might be some info on the bios profiles page near the bottom on how to do it along with how to save a text file too of all saved bios settings.
