Well it doesn't really seem like there is much more you can do besides try to get there maybe once or twice more. i think that your OC of 3.7 is pretty good btw, its only 200mhz from 3.9, and it doesn't seem like an extra 200mhz would make that much of a difference.

You might want to check how hot your mosfets are getting. Some people have reported a more stable vcore putting some small sinks on them. I know with prescotts, the mosfets will get really, really toasty in no time, but I have no idea if this is a problem with northwoods (don't have one.) Volt-modding it may allow you higher core speeds, but it may just smoke you out. Some processors just can't overclock well, it's really luck of the draw. I got lucky with my 3.0e because it can get to 3.75 (250fsb) at stock core voltage, but some people ordering from the same place (newegg) can barely get 3.4 at +1.5v over stock. But if you need 3.9 for some reason, go for it.

Good advise . Yeah, I had him touch his mosfets while under prime95 load, and after about 5 seconds he said they burned him, hehe. I think he was going to put sinks on them. I dunno if he has yet.

Fold for the cure & team 37726!!

Guess I'm behind the game then. It's good that someone told him to do that before he started going ape with a soldering iron.

people are getting into the 3.8x with their 3.0 chips....
guess the 3.2 is just out of the league against the 3.0 in oc-ing? what do you think?

It's not that the 3.2's can't overclock well, it's just that each chip fabricated has a different tolerance for it. There's nothing "embarassing" about it, it's just that your chip isn't one of the few extremely overclockable ones. Overclocking takes little skill and lots of luck and there are no guarantees on how high they'll go. If you got your processor from a local place that has "don't ask, don't tell" exchanges, you can trade it in, but that doesn't mean you'll get a better chip. Do what you can with what you have and be happy. You're already getting more than what you paid for at 3.7.
