"What's up; make love."

  • Betfinix Shinobi XL
  • Mionix NAOS 5000
  • Mionix Propus 380
  • Ducky Shine II TKL MX Browns w/ green LEDs
  • 3x Dell U23"

Water stuff:

Thanks.
Update: 10/11/2012 (Click to show)
Sneak Peaks:

Update: 05/03/2013 (Click to show)
Latest Update:
So I mega goofted.

>bought multi port res
>did not buy stop plugs
>tried duct tape
>still some leaks

Also I thought the tubing was measured in meters so I bought "two" of them, but it was actually feet so I had to borrow a white tube from my old build. Anyway, here are some awful pictures of how it is right now. GPU being added soon.

Not even close to done, no case lighting yet, just trying to get things working and failing.
Update: 20/03/2013 (Click to show)
Here are some pictures before I boot it up fully tomorrow, once the water has dried:

I know, I know, I need to repaint some things so the colors match, please don't remind me.
Update: 21/03/2013 (Click to show)
More pictures:

Update: 09/04/2013 (Click to show)
So I took some pictures to compare colors directly, and here's what we get:

Outside the case:

Looks nice, no complaints.

Inside the case:

So I'm swapping green LEDs for white LEDs. Notice the change in the RAM heatsink color, looks much better now. Sort of matches tubing, not sure.

PCI brackets look good.

Painted heatspreaders look PERFECT in comparison with the board, definitely using this as primary paint.

Still not sure if perfect match with tubing, will try Mayhem's Mint Green + dye changes to see if I can get it to match perfectly.

Tubing, RAM, and sleeving all together; sleeving being changed to all black, green does not match. Tubing looks deeper than RAM, will probably change.

The paint is great, by the way.
Update: 25/04/2013 (Click to show)
Oh boy here we go!

Final update! (Click to show)
All right guys, I wish I could have done some more things, and maybe in the summer when school isn't up my ass I will add a PSU shroud, flip the rad on the bottom, and put a logo and cover onto the drive bay panel, but for now I think I can call it done.

Thanks to everyone that paid attention, I'll see you guys soon!

(ew, need a new side panel)

Publicity Update! (Click to show)
One more update!

Got two more shots while at PDX LAN.

Some EA guy walked up to me on Saturday and asked me to send him some info on my rig, so I did, and then suddenly my build log has thousands of views. Now Nvidia and OCN have also shared it and it's getting a lot of traffic, I'd just like to thank you all so much for taking the time and reading, I'm sorry you weren't here when it was all going down!

Thanks.

With that set-up, it seems you want to overclock, so you should be picking up the i7 3820k. The rest looks good!

I'm a little confused... Why are you getting a locked processor with the assassin motherboard.

3 different SSD sizes? Why?

Unless you're planning on a quad SLI setup the motherboard is overkill and the chipset is kinda pointless, you'd be better off with a 3770k and an 1155 chipset.

I suggest the manual release hole on the optical drive. Bonus points if you eject the tray!

I don't think there IS a 3820k.

The only reason I am getting the G1 Assassin is because it is green.

Because I'm too poor to afford a 512GB, and this way there is storage for general things, games, and OS (256GB, 128GB, 64GB).

I suppose it would be, but I dunno, I really love how RAM looks with 2011, and I would like to work with that platform. I'm kinda bored of 1155, if I'm honest. Perhaps I'll change it.

I already own a Ducky Shine II and it's fantastic. The person this rig is or wanted browns, and because it fit the theme, I figured I might as well go with the green LEDs. The options for the Shine II are great.

Waste of money to be honest mate.

Get either two 256gb and RAID0 them with a 1TB mech drive to back up to or get 2 128GB and RAID0 them with a backup drive.

Sadly I'm cutting out all the drive bays out of the case, and there will be nowhere that I know of to cleanly mount an HDD in the case. I do not want it to be visable. I guess I could just do that, and then a 64GB for the OS? In my current rig I'm working with two M3 512GB in RAID5 and a 120GB, and it's been working fine, since I could just mount them on the back of the motherboard tray. I really like being able to do that, and an HDD greatly limits that ability and will simply act as a hinderance. Unless someone knows of a way to successfully mount an HDD cleanly to the back bit of a Bitfenix XL, whether it be behind the optical bays or behind the motherboard tray, let me know. Otherwise I'm sticking with just SSDs.

And yes, it's a silly reason, I suppose you are right, I'll switch to 1155 again. It's just gotten so boring. : (

Past that it isn't my rig, so my word is not the last, if the person it's for wants a 3820 I have to use a 3820, assuming they turn down anything else.

If you can't change the hard drives then yeah,

Go with a couple of 128GB SSD's in RAID0 and then he'll have to back up to an external drive.

Comps

Then he will have less storage, and he probably would rather not have to deal with the external drive. I will send him an email and see what he thinks. I like the idea of two 256GB drives in RAID rather than two 128GB drives, though.

Well, if it were me, this would be my ideal setup

2 x cruicial M4 64GB in RAID0 system and games

2x crucial M4 128GB RAID0 Apps and VM's

To be honest though, I'd go with smaller drives and RAID them and make sure i have a nice backup
