Cooler Failure

Hey y'all, started having issues with my H110iv2 yesterday. I booted up my machine like any other day, walked away to get a drink, and came back to a frozen login screen and the rad fans at all max. Tried a reboot and my machine couldn't post before shutting down. Gave it a few minutes and was able to get into BIOS with a skyrocketing CPU temp hitting 80C and above. I've no idea what happened. The pump readings seemed a little off, meaning the pump RPM's were higher than usual. Typically that speed hangs around 1500RPM and yesterday I noticed a speed of something like 2250RPM. My buddy thinks the pump failed for whatever reason, and he may be right seeing as I have little experience with water cooling. To narrow down the issue I reapplied paste (Arctic MX-4) with no change. I ended up grabbing a CM 212 Black Edition from Best Buy (my alternative was the 1700 stock cooler ) and it's running surprisingly well with temps just a couple degrees higher than with the H110.

So, I'm curious if anyone else has had this occur? I was considering attempting an RMA, however I purchased this cooler about 2 years ago from someone off Craigslist. I figured Corsair will want a proof of purchase, which I don't have. I don't think I can get in contact with the seller to acquire that PoP. I am slightly optimistic Corsair would honor the warranty out of good faith. Or not. Lol.

Hi,
Yep h110 is good for about 30 months on a five year warranty.
Never hurts to attempt rma they do not ask for a receipt copy
As long as you have the serial number they will take it from there so you can say you bought it from a real retailer if you want too although I'd just say I don't remember.

It does cost you rma shipping cost but corsair free ships back.
Express rma they charge you for the new and credits if rma accepted....

There is thread after thread of these failing all over the internet. I had a h100i when they first came out and almost instantly the rgb died. It quit cooling after about a year and a half so I went custom open loop and have not looked back.

I've had four Asetek CLCs bite the dust, all bad pumps. Two Corsairs were DOA, and Corsair replaced them with no issue. One Corsair died out of warranty (though it had only been in actual use for about six weeks), and I didn't bother to RMA it. I also had a DOA NZXT that dead shorted in the pump and killed the MB header. That took quite a bit of back and forth to get covered, but NZXT did eventually replace it.

Yeah....the little girl hentai avatar is really creeping me out....

Honestly, I've decided these AIOs just aren't worth it. To many failures, and when working, temps often not any better than high end air coolers.

Unless you want to go custom water, I think a quality air cooler will serve you fine. The fact the 212 is within a couple degrees of the $140 AIO is hilarious.

I was quite surprised with the temps tbh. I ran a quick stress test with Prime 95 and the CPU temps capped out at 58-59 C.

Corsair got back to me today asking for the proof of purchase. I told them I bought it in store and did not have the receipt anymore, sprinkling in the "I didn't expect the cooler to fail so soon" line in there for a little extra guilt heh. Hopefully they will approve the RMA.

EDIT: Corsair has accepted the RMA. Nice.
