yes, it's possible the thermal pads are too thick/in the wrong place, but didn't OP say they were pre-applied? that would drastically reduce error, not increase it

was the card acquired second hand? If so, then its more likely there are thermal pads in the wrong place. Most blocks use .5mm and 1mm pads.

you could always look up the schemes and replace.
I found a thread on the EVGA site which suggests the thermal pads are 1mm thick. Now, the card is back together and running so I cannot currently measure their thickness with a caliper. The attached photos are the best I can do at the moment. The card was purchased brand new, and the block was purchased off of the EVGA site.

sorry for the repeat, were they pre-installed? if so, then 99% chance they're fine.

typically you have both .5 and 1mm pads you install yourself, i could see that .5m gap being the cause if you did happen to do the work yourself.

assuming the pads came pre-installed, and you can prove they're wrong, RMA or replace. s

Compared to the thickness of the pcb, they are thicker than 1mm.

Hi,
I believe evga has terrible thermal pads anyway they are more like double stick tap and greasy as hello

You might consider getting some 1.0 and 0.5 thermal pads they are pretty cheap and better
