Out of the loop for a while (literally)

Hey all,

It's been about 4ish years since I last upgraded my PC and feel now is a good time to upgrade as I have a buyer for most of my old parts.
Currently, I have a 5930K on a MSI x99 Gaming 9 ACK that is cooled by a Swiftech H320x2 Prestige.

Well, I'm upgrading to a Ryzen 9 3900x + MSI MEG X570 ACE and am looking for a decent cooling solution outside of the Wraith cooler.

What do you guys suggest? I prefer to not get an AIO when there are EK/Swiftech CLC options that I feel perform better for roughly the same price, or slightly more. However, I would love to get back into a full loop, but don't want to spend over $300ish to do so. If you guys feel that going the AIO route over the Swiftech I have since the 3900x doesn't really overclock well, please explain and what cooler you'd suggest. I am open, but I've had great success with my Swiftech and you can definitely feel that it's much more premium than the other AIO solutions from Corsair etc.

What do you guys recommend? This will be going in a LianLI PC-011 Dynamic (Razer Edition) and I am just after my mast normal overclock on the CPU and aesthetics only. I'm not a huge benchmarker or anything.

Thanks!

"My PC is a work of art, it shall never be disrespected placed on the floor. If anything it would be placed on a pedestal.

They don't really leave a lot of headroom out of the box on the 7nm Ryzen CPUs, you should be able to get away with just about kind of cooler you want.

the Swiftech AIOS kits (Drive X3 in whatever rad size you want) is recommended a lot by the OCN anti-CLC crowd, the only negative thing that I heard about it is the included fans are garbage.

First - you have CLC and AiO backwards in your post. Swiftech and EK make AiO that are not CLC (closed loop coolers).

The nice thing about the Swiftech X3 is that you get an expandable, all copper component setup with a pump that can actually move an ample amount of liquid for roughly the same price that you would pay for an RGB quipped all aluminum CLC. As @The Pook said, the fans are a bit of a downfall since Swiftech catered to the RGB crowd rather than the performance crowd with them, but that is easily remedied should you so desire. It fits nicely at the top of a PC-O11 with no clearance issues at all.

Yeah....the little girl hentai avatar is really creeping me out....

Thanks. I’m not sure I’ll get the swiftech kit again. What I didn’t like about my x2 is that I was limited with fan placement which also limited my mounting options the x3 has also done the same thing. Both are still expandable though.

Would any of you recommend a kit instead of an AIO. Sorry about having that backwards. I thought I had it backwards when I first typed it and changed it. Should have kept it like I did before lol.

I’m looking to cool a 3900x. May just keep the wraith cooler considering it also works my all Razer theme

I'm building a custom loop for my 3900x. I decided to throw the rig together with the Wraith while I'm getting all my other stuff together... Lets just say I can't wait to ditch the Wraith.

That said, there aren't many kit options under $300. Swiftech's Boreas kits are going to be over budget. The EK Classic RGB S360 is under $300, but uses their SPC pump, so it would probably perform about the same as a Drive X3 for twice the cost.

Do you know if the wraith would fit inside a LianLi PC-011D. It’s the Razer edition if that matters. I wonder if I should skip that and go with the XL version. I think the Razer would fit my entire theme better. I have nothing but Razer peripherals with a darker theme in general.

It will definitely fit. The PC-011d Razer supports 155mm coolers. Wraith Prism is way shorter than that around 90mm

Do you think the EKWB Performance kit or Classic RGB kits are worth it? I know I could just build it all myself, but I rather be lazy and not hand pick the fittings and all that.

I really want to do the distribution plate inside the O11Dynamic but can’t really find any. I wouldn’t mind picking up barrow, but I hate the big logo in the center of it as it’s distracting. The bitspower seems good, but it also has a logo on it where it would essentially be where the razer logo would be. I could mount it to the side of the case, but I do prefer the front. I can’t seem to find the EK version or I’d pick that up.

From a monetary standpoint, liquid cooling is rarely ever worth it. Also if you want a distribution plate, most seem to have a pump integrated, so buying a kit that comes with a pump would be redundant.

EK makes a distro plate, but it might be hard to find in stock. https://www.ekwb.com/news/o11d-distr...-with-lian-li/

Another option if you want something without a logo is radikult customs. I think the guy keeps a few different things in stock on his ebay store and takes orders through social media.

After using the Wraith prism for a few days, it's not unbearable. I just adjusted the fan curve a bit and added a step up and step down delay so it isn't constantly varying RPM. Once I get my loop setup I will have the fans adjust RPM based on coolant temp.

Yeah, I know water really is hard to justify the price. Even more so since CPU’s are becoming less overclocking friendly. My rebuild is solely for the looks.

I’ve had my aging 5930k for 4 years now and felt it’s time to upgrade and the 3900x is a great chip to replace it with. I’d wait for the 3950x but I feel that cpu won’t be worth it for the 25% price increase for cores and lower base clock.

I’m hoping I can achieve a 4.3ghz all core frequency on the 3900x and don’t think a prism can do that.

Thanks for the person you mentioned. I saw his work on YouTube and wanted to pick it up from eBay. But needed a little more research.

Right now I’m having a hard time on picking up the Razer Edition for the theme of the xl version for the obvious advantages
