DRAM Water Cooling Block Tips

I am finally getting around to Water cooling my Single Sided, Single Rank, B-Die.

I know there will be a ton of people on here that will feel I shouldn't bother. I understand why you would say that, and I respect your Opinion, but I have already committed. So instead of the people who would try to spend their time talking me out of it, I would prefer to get opinions from the people who have done it. I would like to know your experiences with the best Blocks, and reasons why or Why I shouldn't choose a specific Kit.

I plan on cooling all 4 of my DIMMS. They are specifically the G.Skill Flare X, 3200Mhz CL14 Kit. Currently OverClocked to 3800Mhz CL16. On my 3900x I could Hold Perfect Stability at 1.46v, I am finding for whatever reason on my 3950x that its taking a Bit More Voltage to Pass Karhu RamTest to 5000% Without Errors. Specifically its when My Kit Reaches between 54c and 56c that I lose stability. This doesn't happen when My Side Panels are on, because I have Side Intake Fans on my Side Panels which Blow cool air directly at my DIMMS, but I have been in and out of my case a lot lately, and its specifically because I have 4 ML120 Fan's strapped to my Side Panel, that it is a PIA to keep removing it, so I have been keeping it off lately as I keep swapping out hardware, and thats when I noticed the stability issues with my Ram, that I did not have previously.

Anyways, I looked into RAM Block Kits, and as this is an area I have yet to venture into, I was hoping some of you more seasoned Enthusiasts that have ventured into this area could give me some pointers on what to look out for, Kits you recommended, and just tips in general.

All Advice Welcome!

Here are some Kits I am looking at Currently:

Bitspower Universal RAM Module Water Cooling Set for 4 DIMMs, RGB Lighting
https://www.titanrig.com/cooling/wat...p016901on.html

Bitspower Universal RAM Module Water Cooling Set V2 for 4 DIMMs:
https://www.titanrig.com/bitspower-u...p011201on.html

Alphacool D-RAM Cooler X4 Universal w/ 2 Sets of Alphacool 17268 D-RAM Module (for Alphacool D-RAM Cooler)
https://www.titanrig.com/cooling/wat...xx.html#93=418
https://www.amazon.com/Alphacool-172...013TVI00S/ref=

And some FujiPoly 1.5mm Thermal Pads, since I am using Single Sided Ram, I think I may need this , but not sure if I should instead just use 0.5mm on the Side with the IC's, and 1.0mm on the Backside without the IC's.
https://www.amazon.com/mod-smart-Fuj..._1_9?keywords=

Input on the Thermal Pads very Much Welcome.

i'd recommend buying the 200x300mm sheets of .5 1.0 & 1.5 from FCPU. ah crap, the 17w stuff only comes in half sheets. still slightly more cost effective though.

looks like this "modright" company has cornered the fujipoly packaging and distribution market, prices are about double from when I got my sheets, which are now unfortunately almost gone i'd rather pay 1/2 the price n have it show up the old school way, between two pieces of plastic.

Yeah same! I still have Plenty of both 0.5mm and 1.0mm, have more then enough to knock out 4 Dimms if thats all I need, just didn't want to end up needing 1.5mm and not have it. Not sure if I can get away with just using 1mm on the backside of the DDR, and 0.5mm on the side with the IC's. Do you know if that would be fine?

I am liking the Look of these AlphaCool Ram Blocks. Just really hoping someone with experience could chime in before I pull the trigger...

Also not sure since My Ram is Single Sided, if I will need 1.5mm Thermal Pads, or if having 1mm for the back side, and the 0.5mm for the side with the IC's, will work just fine?

Hi there

I would personally consider Bykski or Barrow RAM waterblocks they're usually cheaper and performance depends there, I only tried EK one against the Bykski and Barrow as well and temperature differences have been almost non existent between the two blocks

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jura

I really appreciate your input @jura11 !

I figured I was just going to have to dive in without help and figure it out, so real late last night I pulled the Trigger on a bunch of Thermal Pad Sizes (Which was my biggest Concern) and the Bitspower Kit. Although I kept researching after I bought the Bitspower, and realized both the Bykski and the Barrow's kits seemed to be Identical. Don't know if there is a difference there.

Now I am trying to decide whether or not if I am going to use actual Thermal Paste in between the Ram Coats and the WB, or if I am going to use .5 17w/k Fuji Poly. Decisions Decisions...

The extra thermal pads will get used at some point, probably while working on a GPU block. I wasn't sure what I needed for a used GPU I bought so I bought Thermal Grizzly 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 1.5mm pads.
With the additional builds and mods I have done I have used and replaced the 0.5mm and 1.0mm packages and I am halfway through the 1.5mm package.

Build: Z390 ACE
Core i9-9900K OC 5 GHz, MSI Z390 ACE Mobo, AMD Radeon VII GPU OC 2K MHz
Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB 3200 RAM, Phanteks Enthoo Pro M SE.
EKWB Z390 ACE Monoblock, Bykski Radeon VII GPU w/b, 2x EKWB 140 Revo D5 Pump & Res.
Aquacomputer Aquaero 6 LT USB Fan-Controller, Quadro, Vision Touch and 'High Flow' Sensor.
(2x) HWL Black Ice Nemesis 280 GTS XFLOW and (1x) Alphacool XT45 X-Flow 280 radiators.

1.0 pads for chokes / heatsinks on your motherboard, 0.5 for memory / video RAM / IC's etc

So True! I still have Fujipoly .5mm and 1mm Left over from a bunch of 10Gbe and Raid Cards I replaced the Pads on a while back. Then ended up using a bunch of the 1mm and .5mm for my GPU Block, instead of the Included stuff from EK, now I have that put away too. But Checked, didn't have enough Fujipoly left over for the RAM, I know I would be fine with the Included stuff, or the EK Stuff, its just RAM after all, but I would have known it wasn't the 17w m/k Stuff, and that would have bothered me, so I ordered a bunch more anyway. Here's to hoping I don't need 1.5mm for the backside of the RAM. I will find out tomorrow when the Ram Kit arrives.

Appreciate it.

This was specifically for Single Sided Ram though. When you have Double Sided RAM, I know its .5mm for Memory on Both Sides, however when you are only using Single Sided Ram, I was hoping .5mm on the Side with the RAM IC's, and 1mm On the Side without would get me contact on both sides. I am pretty sure it will be fine, but wasn't sure if I needed 1.5mm or Not, depends on the Depth Size of the IC's themselves. Appreciate your input though!
