My last four builds have used EK D5 pumps. Regular PWM D5, two D5 PWM with their top, dual D5 PWM, and the D5 PWM that came installed in my "FLT Kinetic" combo Their dual top D5 setup was excellent btw. Anyways, every single one of their D5 pumps ran without the PWM header plugged in, only the molex connector and a spare PSU jumped over.
Hi,
No this image from the original question post #1 shows the only power is 4 wire pwm so all power also comes from it for the pump.

still rubbish because the EK site says that without the PWM connected the pump runs at 100% if its a DDC or D5, LINK. NOTE: the bold yellow statement.

Well unless OP hasn't a clue what he bought and the distro plate contains an SPC pump and not a DDC, the DDC distro plate still says the same info LINK: But seeing if you enlarge OP's photo you can clearly see the label says DDC and the fact you can see a second cable running from the bottom...I suggest next time you want to go EK bashing that you get your facts straight 1st.

It is an SPC pump. You can see in the picture 12V 6W so its just powered by the 4pin fan cable.

That doesn't make it flawed though. Any more than other PWM or fan powered pumps are. You still just need to give it external power.

Distro plates are very hard to bleed. They take away nearly all the benefit of having a reservoir at all. Its bad enough with a full power pump so with an SPC it can't be much fun. Especially with it tipped on the side so the pump is an air trap.

I don't know much about SPC pumps but maybe if its airlocked it lets the pump overspeed and it trips some sort of built in protection. That's the only think I can think of that would cause behaviour like the OP was describing.

Take another look at the picture, enlarge it and look at the label, it clearly says it's a DDC pump but agreed if it was an SPC....yikes! OP needs one of THESE That will allow him to run the pump without powering up the mobo
