I do not know about Mayhems, or other fancy additives.

What works, and has worked for the last ten years, for me is: distilled water and a couple drops of benzalkonium chloride. My rig sits next to a window, and sunlight shines into my bay res window. I have no issues with any growth of any kind.

Spend your money however you wish...

In no way should it be misconstrued that I do not disagree.

No You don't HAVE to pH test. But if you are concerned with the fluid in your system, then pH Testing is certainly not a bad idea. Mayhem's sell strips to make it pretty easy, You just dip the strip in your fluid (I usually use the Res to dip in) for a few seconds, then pull it out and give it a minute or so to change color. Based on the color it changes, will tell you what your pH level is, if it's low or higher then the specified range, you may have an issue. If its low, its as easy as dropping a few Mayhem's Inhibitor and Biocide drops to, if its too high, its as easy as just adding some distilled water to it, then test again after the fluid has had a chance to circulate. At least this is my understanding of it. But truth be told, with the Mayhem's Plus line, I haven't had to worry about this and my loops have all been great.

folks always fail to realize there's more to loop health than stuff not growing in it, that's only half the battle. specially if you plan to run things for 5+ years, zero maint, etc.

but yes, there are most definitely all sorts of home brew methods that work. I would not recommend any of them to someone rebounding from a green system though.

My system is closed, so opening up the reservoir fill port is a bit of a pain, and removing fluid even moreso. Though fortunately I have my radiator externally mounted or I wouldn't have any access to the fill port without draining. I used X1 concentrate, but with no way to estimate the volume of the loop I just poured some concentrate in, and topped off with distilled water.

Sorry, was being Tongue In Cheek, did not mean to exude Offense. No Offense was taken, more amused that we were given your blessing for spending our money how we wish. I was being a D**k. LOL.

Truth is, there are many solutions out there that work for people. Just because one works in one system for one person, does not necessarily mean it will work for another in a different system. So I find the one size fits all solutions to be a bit humorous.

That said, the closest thing I have personally found that has worked in my systems so far (and I don't have the same years in custom water cooling as many of you guys do on here, I just have the benefit of caring for and maintaining a lot of custom liquid cooled systems in my relatively short time in this segment) is the Mayhem's Biocide/Inhibitor Drops. They actually are not that expensive at all, $30 total for a bottle of each, and that One Purchase will maintain about 12-15 Systems or so a year, that's not bad for the price at all. If you are only Maintaining One System with 2 Liters of Fluid, well now that one purchase is enough to last you at least 5 years or more (depending on the shelf life of the drops, which is unclear to me at this time.) Either way, I don't think that could be considered expensive for the piece of mind it gives you.

Not at all knocking yours or anyone else's method though, if your method works for you, then it works for you and no one can take that from you. As I said though, there is usually not a One Size Fits all method, and I am sure there is someone this might not work well for, it just seems to be the one thing I have found that has worked in a wide ranging of climates and loops, so its one I feel comfortable promoting without worrying it bringing harm to someone's system.

next time, just dilute into a gallon. too much x1 will reduce cooling potential.

X1 can definitely add up quickly, but as Oreo said. the droppers are dirt cheap.
