Playing UT3 (!!) I get some crazy FPS drops, and checking MSI AB revealed this:

Is this normal? In Kombustor, clock stays at 1225, but during gameplay it's all over the place. OC is stable btw.

EDIT: This is the stats for just standing idly at the spawn point of Torlan Necris. CPU is @60%, GPU is ~30%, frequency fluctuates, and FPS is effin 40!! Also, what's with that super-low vRAM usage?!

Pls share wisdom redface.gif

My HD 7790 (which is essentially a 260x) does the same thing. Very annoying.
Haven't been able to find a solution.
Tried different BIOSes, different drivers.
Believe it may be a faulty card, at least mine might be.

Thanks. I was thinking today that maybe my issues are not related. Perhaps just UT3, which is optimized for dualcore, has a bug which loads two cores at 100%, and everything else goes through the rest, hence my 60% utilization. Meanwhile the game isn't getting enough CPU to keep the GPU busy, and the fluctuations could just be some totally idiotic power-saving solutions in less than 100% load scenarios... Thoughts on that?

It's a comfort to know that there's someone else with the same problem smile.gif

You guys tried setting AB's unofficial overclocking mode to 2? That causes my 7970 to hold the clocks I apply/set when gaming.

I was getting very low usage in some narrow tunnels in Skyrim's dungeons before I did that. That was causing a feeling of lag. Now it's all good.

Yes, however when I do that, it doesn't drop down to 300Mhz when idle, and it gets hotter than I'd like for idle... smile.gif

The UT3 FPS drop was solved by setting AllowD3D10=False in game dir/Engine/config/BaseEngine.ini, as well as in user/Documents/MyGames/Unreal Tournament 3/UTGame/config/UTEngine.ini

The frequency fluctuations remain.
