AMD GPU Advice - Unlocking 7950 vs. CrossFire vs. Something Else

Building up a new rig, as I received a Threadripper 1950X by sheer luck at work. I am building with mostly higher end stuff so it can be future-proof for a bit, but Crypto Currency is killing the GPU and RAM markets right now. So what should I do about graphics? I tend to lean toward AMD and just bought a 27" 4K monitor with FreeSync. I would prefer not to spend a ton right now, as part of the reason I am even building is because I had a fair amount of the components for free (Threadripper, M.2 PCIE 1TB SSD, GPUs).

By chance, I have a couple of Reference 7950s with the 768 shaders referenced here: https://www.overclock.net/forum/67-am...shaders-4.html All the evidence I have read on these is that they can easily be unlocked to 1536 shaders using 7950 Bios, or some have even been able to get them to take a 7970 Bios.

So should I:

1. Run one card and unlock to 1536 shaders
2. Unlock them both and CrossFire them (not sure if this is still a viable solution)
3. Sell and buy another single card AMD solution that is not going to destroy my wallet

PSU draw and noise are not really factors that I am concerned about.

The Tahiti cards do not support Freesync. If this is a temporary solution, I'd suggest you use one unlocked card and sell the other one assuming you can get a good price on it. When the market settles, get the card that you have budgetted for. Or, you could set them up to mine if you do want to capitalize on this crypto trend ?

#2 their debt is insane, even for a "diverse field" company. They cannot even afford to service the debt maintenance let alone make an actual dent in the debt itself. - Internet Stranger
