Awesome Red Dragon price on Newegg ATM ($332) Pull Trigger?

Yo Gang ... so been thinking of upgrading to Vega for awhile (my current 1060 I bought for my old 1200p monitor is NOT cuttin' it for new Tomb Raider on my new Ultra Wide monitor ...) but only have about $350 to throw around unless I really stretch ... the V64LC on NE atm at $499 looks real nice, but much more in budget is the Red Dragon that's at $369 with 10% off promo (plus the 3 free games ... are those really Div2, DMC5, and RE2 Reboot? If so, that's pretty sick!) comes in at $332 which seems like a wicked good price.

So ... anyone with a Dragon 56? Any issues with that Nano board being crappier than regular boards? Seems like it's shortcomings are likely outweighed by the extra cooling ability since it has that blow-through design, but ... I dunno?

How's temps/noise/OC potential on this one? Anyone get one with Samsung memory? Is it really worth another $167 (another 50% dough, basically) to get the 64WC ya think?

Playing on a LG Freesync Ultra Wide (whatever it is, 3440x1440?), it's IPS with 75 refresh rate. I'm using DisplayPort.

Does Freesync help much at 75fps? I usually adjust game settings as high as I can to maintain around that FPS. Don't know much about how it works, never had it. Not a big twitch gamer so 'lag' not that big a deal but I hate screen tearing and love smoothness overall.

Also, what's the advantage(s) to zapping 56 to a 64 bios, exactly? Higher Mem Clocks? How much? Do 56's mem's OC as high as 64's after the mod, generally? What are downsides, if any?

Thanks Y'all!

You can compare the performance/price value based on what you can buy. Moving from 1060 to V56/2070 level of performance... not that big of an upgrade. Overall you're better off saving a bit more and waiting for 7nm GPUs.

Thanks mate.

I understand it's not a HUGE upgrade, but honestly the 1060 struggles mightily at 3440x1440, to the point that it's annoying in the newest games, seeing a lot of 35-40fps ... that just doesn't cut it for me. I assume a 56 can pull 60-75fps in lots of the newer games at this res, right?

Also, I figure I should be able to recoup about $150 for the 1060 used, and then with the 3 free games at $150 (all of which I'll play, assuming they're what I've been led to believe they are), I'm kinda only 'out' like $32 for the upgrade.

So my main question is less about the value of the upgrade itself, and more about advice on the particular card, and whether it conceivably makes sense to spend 50% more for the 64WC.

I really like quiet cards and from all I've read so far, this cooler/pcb combo is pretty awesome for noise/temps.

GTX 1080 , GTX 1070 Ti / VEGA56 at a minimum if upgrading. GTX 1080 has 2x the CUDA cores.

3440x1440 is about 35% more pixels than 2560x1440 , but 4K is about 67% more pixels than 1440 ultrawide

Over 55% more performance per TPU at 1440p and closer to 67% at 4K:

Vega 56 with Vega 64 BIOS unlocks power limit and also memory overclocking.

For the LG Freesync monitors listed on AMD's site:
34UM88 has 40-75Hz range via Displayport, 34UC98 has 55-75Hz.

If you're doing this because of the new tomb raider, even my 1070 wasn't cutting it for 60fps at 2560x1440. Going to V56 wont get you there. Its just one of those games. Don't even try AC odyssey.. cant maintain 60fps half the time on a 1080ti.. and thats with tuned settings.
Beyond that though, for just about everything else the V56 should handle 1440p a lot better than a 1060.

Freesync wont matter if you're maintaining the max refresh rate, but itll be useful for those games that do dip below. Like its an amazing difference playing with VRR even when framerates are dropping lower than you'd like.

Thanks All! Got the RD 56 coming tomorrow, we'll see how it goes. Once I sell the GTX1060+the 3 free games, figure I'm not out too much in the end, plus Vega OC'ing seems pretty fun from all I've read online ... even if a bit confusing. Seems like all in all a 56 is about 40-50% faster than a 1060 at this res, which is about what I'm hoping for ... 40fps vs 60fps is a damn noticeable difference to my eyes.

Definitely planning to rock a 64 bios providing it doesn't create too many BS complications for me (like a fan that never shuts off) ... I will definitely looking for best FPS/Watt efficiency overall ... when you live in the damn Desert ... last thing you want is a super-inefficient GPU. I know nVidia does better in this regard, but I do have a Freesync monitor ... and I know nV has (in theory) decided to support FS in driver coming out in few days here, but with my luck, my monitor will end up not working right.

Also in my experience AMD cards have had a better image quality, so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit to enjoy that.

If you get it and it has Samsung memory, Sapphire Nitro+ 64 bios works, and I found bios that are not a verified bios on techpowerup.com that are a XFX Vega 64 Nano bios which are only 220watts vs 240 or 260. Plus they allow me to get over 1000mhz stable for me. Haven't tried any higher just got the card for 255 used off eBay and received it this weekend. Don't flash a reference bios it's a headache trying to remove them.
