Sapphire Nitro+ V64 gives me lots of trouble :-(

I will start easy so i dont get on a rant :-)

Put the card in the pc (no drivers installed yet), plug in the cables, turn it on, install the latest driver. Everything is great so far, picture sound and i can use wattman and what have you, then a message saying i need to restart so that pci bus can be finnished doing its install (allways restart after driver install btw). I then do as i am asked, bios splash comes up, windows says its loading, i type in my password, up until here all is well but then one of three things happens (every gosh darn time). 1: black screen and display say no signal. 2: windows freezes completely. 3: blue screen and i dont mean bsod with text and what not. If i dont restart all works great, but that not all that great. So have any of you had this torture happen? Btw, took that card over to a friend who have used a mining setup a year ago and we put it on/in one of the risers, loaded the driver and all work fine after a restart. It seems not to be the card itself i guess then. Had a 280X in my machine when i was waiting for the vega and there where no problem with restart or anything. Just forgot to say that i have installed the windows update that delete your downloaded files, dont know if there is an issue with that update. Have tried so many times installing and uninstalling the driver using ddu in safe mode, dont know what to do now to be honnest. The card is brand new, so not a "slave" from a mine.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance :-)

I have that GPU and also hadsimilar problems. It turned out to be the 19.12.1 drivers. They are really buggy. I reinstalled the 18.12.1.1 drivers and all of those problems went away.

Also wattman never worked for me and I now do not install the Radeon software and use Trixx instead. It's not perfect but it works better than anything else I have tried.

I have tried a wide range of drivers but the end result was the same. What where the exact symptoms that you got?

I was getting black screens and low fan speeds which resulted in high temps and downclocking with the 19.12.1 drivers. The 18.12.1 drivers have none of that. I now have the Radeon software uninstalled as well as wattman has a mind of its own and interferes with other apps. Vulkan is running much better now and is what I use for DX12 games.

This makes me think there is some kind of Windows 10 shenanigans going on. I have a Nitro 64 and have never had an issue. I have had problems in the past with other cards when I allow Windows 10 to automatically install drivers. The one W10 sets up always corrupts when I then install a new AMD driver or software package.

Try turning off the option for W10 to install drivers, use DDU to remove the current ones, restart, and then install the latest version directly from AMD.

I've had that PCI adapter message appear before. I did a clean install using the AMD driver and it worked fine afterwards. The other issues will need some troubleshooting if they persist after a clean install.

I do agree that Macroshaft has a big part in this. Things got a lot better when I started pulling the plug on the internet when uninstalling/installing drivers.

Yes i am also thinking that its windows that somehow does something. I have done the things you say before and also trying to install really old drivers just to see if there would be a difference, but it always give the symptoms described in my post. Its weird that everything is working perfect up until i restart. What in windows can be the cause of all of this and where do i find it so i can fix it? :-(
