No, I'm still short some parts and I won't be home but in Cuba shortly. Cuban cigars and hot weather here I come!

But you know, that may not be a bad idea as part of my build log to compare the R9 290 and the RX 5700 XT with the 4770K @ 4.5GHz and then put those same cards in the new 3700X PC and do a comparison.

Go to my new Build Log: "Fast n' Cheap" if you want to see that: https://www.overclock.net/forum/1808...t-n-cheap.html and stay tuned!

Do you have two slots or four? If you have four and you only got a single DIMM broken, then where's the problem?

Dual Channel provides up to 35% difference in gaming. Especially, when GPU is not a bottleneck.

I have 4 ram slots, 2 sticks of ram, 1 broken dimm slot. so I run 2 sticks single channel.

So do you have a DIMM/RAM slot broken or a PAIR of slots broken and how did you diagnose that?

the new gigabyte mobo's shipping from china. it'll take 2-4 weeks to arrive. ill run some more tests to see what I can do in the meantime. my msi pcmate z97 doesn't overclock well. couldn't even get the 4770k to 3.9 stable. that's odd considering its my friends cpu and he traded it to me and he got it 4.3 stable. so i'll bump this thread to keep it live. thanks again.
if you're averaging 90-100FPS in a game, the best you can expect after a realistic overclock with ample cooling is going to be around 20% IMO (@ ~4.6ghz)... 110-120 FPS absolute best case. I doubt going to dual channel memory would help that, it may, but it won't get you much.

As far as I know it would take a 5+ ghz 9900k with very fast memory to even get close to 200FPS in BFV. I know a Ryzen 3600 with decent memory will get into the realm of 145 FPS.

Re overclock, were you trying that OC on stock voltage? It should be very easy to get 4.4ghz out of a 4770k, though who knows with a crappy board.

Keep in mind these benches are done using modern CPUs. I ran a 4790k for quite a few years and found that memory bandwidth was significantly less important for games on that platform. Would be really interested to see somebody still running a system such as OPs to bench some modern games in single and dual channel. I highly doubt going from DDR3 2400 single channel to dual channel is going to bump him up 35%.

Also, I'm a bit confused why OP is stuck in single channel mode while having 3 working slots??????????

Dual Channel >> Single Channel, always, even with old CPUs, I also wrote up to, which you can see in the linked article. The higher strain on CPU, the higher the memory matters. As for the throughput - my 5775c gained 15FPS on average with 2080 Ti just by going 1866MHz CL9 to fine tuned 2400MHz CL11,

Obviously Dual > Single, however again, in time period benches that I can find and recall, it made nearly 0 difference in games.

What happens to your frame rate if you do 2400 CL11 dual channel vs 2400 CL11 single channel? that's what I said was interesting about this thread.

https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1...channel/Page-3

Only shows one single game, but there is virtually no difference in shogun. I would be interested to see more results.

PC won't boot up. It will go into a boot loop and turn on and off when I put the ram sticks in slots 1/3 and 2/4. I googled the issue and it seems like a lot of people have this issue. I believe it is a mobo issue and purchased a new one. The ram sticks are in 3/4 at the moment.

It seems like a lot of people are having this issue. I think it might be the mobo.
