so i had a 5700 non xt red devil die with no warning signs. the RMA is in and im waiting on that shipping to/from to newegg process to complete.
what happened was, i had OC'd the card, was gaming when what appeared to be a driver crash happened as i still had music, etc....then the entire machine locked up and was unresponsive with a black screen. So i hard powered my machine down, let it sit for a couple seconds to settle then pressed the power to turn it back on...nothing at all happened.
Tried again, nothing.
Got down under my desk and popped off the side panel, powered up again, nothing.
Fiddled with the PSU some, the switch on that and even removed the case switch connector in case it was shorting, still, nothing. You could tell the system was going to try and start up as the fans on the case and the AIO would jump, then nothing.
So, i pulled the GPU, pressed power, BAM, system turns on fine and of course throws a code for no GPU.
Next, i try my old 970, BAM, system starts up completely fine.
To make sure it wasnt the PSU, i put the 5700 in another system and tried to start it, same thing happened where the fans would twitch then nothing.
So, idk if something on the card shorted or what and was causing a crazy draw on the PSU and the PSU was shutting down protecting itself or what. Ive never seen this kind of failure before.
Also note, i did not overvolt the card at all, it was undervolted and i was using SPT for my OC. system was stable....and i did try both bioses to make sure one of them didnt just commit suicide or something.
