RX 580 Breakdown

Hi,
I'm generally interested in OC not only for GPU but also for RAM and CPU. I would like to expand my knowledge and some good inspiration are the videos of buildZoid especially the Breakdown videos
.
The problem is that I don't understand what he is talking about the VRMs and what are their relation to quality and performance.

Do you guys know some good sources or tutorials that dives into this topic in more detail?
