Chrome Hardware Acceleration Issues

I noticed, perhaps after the latest Adrenalin 2020 drive update, that video streaming services (YouTube TV, Netflix, CBS All Access) playing in Chrome resulted in a black web browser but sound still playing. Disabling Hardware Acceleration solves the problem. I would be fine leaving HW Acceleration off, but the sound from streaming services gets garbled without it.

I have a 5700XT in a Gigabyte Aorus X570 Ultra.

Anyone else experiencing this? Chrome or AMD Driver issue?

I did file an issue report with AMD.

None here. Reference XT on the latest driver and i never disable Hardware Acceleration ever in Chrome or other browser.

I don't use DDU. I just install the new over the old driver.

I did find a post on Reddit stating there was a Chrome update which broke the hardware acceleration with AMD GPUs. It's not just video streaming, apparently Discord was getting the black screen as well. Glad to see I'm not alone and hopefully a fix comes out soo.

Fired up discord and it works.

EDIT: Just updated chrome to latest version XXXX.106 and everything works.

Yes. with HWA on, i have a tear in the middle of my screen, with newest adrenalin driver. I am rocking a cheap RX 590 to get me by in a used parts pc. Its annoying. It goes away when i turn HWA off in chrome.

what is odd, its only Twitch that I see the tear in teh middle of screen. YT and other sites with media are fine.

I think I know how to fix this..

You go to Youtube..start a vid and then right-click real quick..then "disable hardware acceleration"

You have to be fast, may take a try or 5.

Always had issues with it and always disabled hardware acceleration as far back as ATI Radeon 9800 Pro if memory serves. Problem was worse under Crossfire.

sounds like a job for DDU.

Best R0ach Quote of all time : TLDR: Haswell might be the last legit gaming platform unless mice get their own non-USB interface on some newer architecture.

Here new PC with a fresh install of Win 10 Pro and fresh AMD driver 2020 edition and with a RX 5700 XT still had YouTube problems and had to disable hardware acceleration. AMD/ATI has never cared about this issue and it's hard to pin down who to blame AMD or Google.
