I always thought a GFX card was about more than just speed. Isn't there other tech involved as well? Like newer cards being able to cope better with stuff like tesselation?

Some have ******* NO IDEA!!

https://www.afuture.nl/products/18879/VGA-480-A1_Point_of_View_GeForce_GTX_480.html - € 529,30 for a generation old card....

this is more like it!

I ******* HATE HOLLANDS RETAILERS!! I WISH I COULD BUY DIRECT!!

uhm... if the mere computational power is superior, what about technologies? new generation cards should have some better trick here and there, or my assumption is wrong? can someone clarify this?

The biggest difference between the 400 and 500 series is the difference in TDP. The 500 series cards run cooler and require less power for the same level of performance (560 Ti vs 470, 570 vs 480 etc).

mmh... so there is no difference in the graphic quality between the two generations?

There is, I mean the 480 was the flagship card for the 400 series, which is rivaled by the 570 today when both are stock. The 580 is the 500 series flagship card. Any card in the 500 series with less horsepower than a 580 should have a comparable option in the 400 series though.

can we state then that even if 480 is "faster", 560 may have better graphic quality?

Thats one of most silly comments ive ever seen on here.

They are both powered by fermi only as the 480 is faster it will provide the chance for better graphics and higher IQ.

If you run the same settings on both cards the only difference would be higher frames rates on the 480, neither cards would show any diffrrenece in quality in the rendered image.

I will overlook your lack of manners for this time...

this maybe arguable: I don't know if the rendering engine is the exact same (but I wouldn't see the point to do so, as it would defeat the purpose of developing new technologies)

480 is great value for money, and is definitely a better performing card than the 560. It trades blows with the 570, with the 570 being a little in front at stock clocks. If you are prepared to get aftermarket cooling however (even air cooling) the 480 offers unmatched overclocking potential, and will easily surpass stock 580 performance.

rolleyes.gif

They have the EXACT same architecture, Nvidia added NOTHING to the 500 series over the 400 series...

Nvidia's main focus for the 500 series was to reduce power draw and heat out put.

And my manners? Stupidity doesn't deserve manners...

The GTX 480 is the FASTER card and there's no situation were the GTX 560 would produce better performance or a better quality image.

If people actually read reviews it would save a lot of silly comments and threads
