On mine I had it mounted at the rear as an intake (where exhaust fans usually go) in push/pull on a Corsair H75i and had the top fan as an exhaust, CPU temps were a hair warmer that way but by all means not terrible 83C under extreme loads (loads i'd never see usually) but now they are mid 70's. Best to have the rad for the GPU as an intake though since Pascal deals with boost clocks via temps and that would net a few degrees cooler at the expense of a few degrees on the CPU.

I was thinking about getting a h75 and then because its a 120mm rad fan size & putting that as an intake on the bottom 120mm fan intake. So did you have your gtx 1080 on an aio? what kind of temps were you getting?

Nah the H75 is still on my 290X, I haven't needed it on my 1080 to be honest after I gave the card an alcohol bath and repasted it.

I was going to get a 1080 ti but $500 is still a bit much for my tastes lol, though 1070's are a really freaking good deal right now as some can be had for less than $200.

haha I totally hear you. I got really lucky I think. So after selling my 980 ti for 220$, then getting a 1080 for 330$, then selling the 1080 for 400$ and getting this TI black edition for 500$, my actual out of pocket cost was under 150$ so that seemed like a no brainer to me. I think 140$?

I thought about getting a 1070 for my old 775 build since they are cheap but it would almost not even be worth it.

Ya know honestly, I am still impressed by that old platform. I have an Asus Maximus Formula II board that I did the lga 775 to 771 mod to and I am currently rocking a Xeon x5470 clocked at 4.5ghz with 16gb of ddr2. Just for the hell of it, I stuck in my 1080 before I sold it and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. There's some bottle neck right away guaranteed(and I didn't try a game like GTA 5) BUT, playing games like far cry 5, the witcher, doom, etc I was pleasantly surprised to see the CPU wasn't quite fully bottle necked. Not bad for a 4core/4 thread cpu heh

At 4.5ghz it was hovering around like 70-80% usage on average.
I thought straight away it was just gonna be at 100% straight up choking the life out of the graphics card. I even managed to get it stable at 4.7ghz. I went for 4.8 but it just wasn't having it. All on air too!(granted I do have one of those giant be quiet heatsinks in that system) And this was all at 1080p. I am sure the cpu usgage would drop going to higher resolutions.

Anyways, it still blows me away. There was a user on here I think his name was levithan? He was(and probably still is) rocking two 980 ti's in SLI with a heavy overclock and a Xeon x5470 and he was totally happy with the results playing in 4k haha.

Yeah I am going to throw my Hybrid 290X into it once I get a way better PSU for it, otherwise it'll trigger overvolt protection more than likely . If the CPU still has some headroom available for a more powerful GPU then maybe in the future I'll consider something a tad more powerful *cough cough* Fury X *cough cough*
