I doubt it however.

Please make sure the thermal pads are correctly aligned and there's no components touching the backplate. A SMD cap touching may not instantly go BOOM (depending on what circuit it is part of) but could cause instability.
I took the backplate back off, there are huge fujipoly pads on it so I can't imagine any way it was making contact or shorting anything. That said, my max overclocks are stable again. There aren't any other factors, so the LEDs on the FTW3 backplate must have been measurably affecting my power delivery.

Overcloking a GPU is really giving hard time.
I have played COD BO3 yesterday and hard crash (the screen gets black but I still can ear the sound of the game). I am obliged to shut down the computer.
This was with my OC 2164mhz/11800mhz which perfectly work in BF1, BFV, COD WWII, overwatch.

It is really difficult to find a kind of Universal OC which is stable in all the games I play...quite impossible.....

Because like I documented previously in the owner's thread 1080 Ti isn't that powerful. I'm after 1080p @ 80 hz (and I would like a 120hz screen later if I can find one) in obscure games with several mods in them and it's difficult to find any computer that can even do this. The games I want to play can completely max out my 1080 Ti @ max boost speed @ 100% utilization and still be < 60 FPS. I'm seriously considering a second card here in fall 2020. All the games I want to play also do scale +80% to +90% with a second nvidia card in SLI so that's most likely my option. Unless Nvidia comes out with a new card that's windows 7 compatible and is at least +80% over the 1080 Ti some how in 2020. Very unlikely though.

Kithylin what R U going to do when Windows 7 stops getting updates from M$ (particularly security updates)? I can only imagine the heat output of two 1080Ti's -- even if they're not overclocked.

I added a powerful 120x25mm Delta vaneaxial fan to the floor of my case and managed to squeeze 2164Mhz. core clocks out at 1.2V, but even that 120x25mm vaneaxial delta isn't enough so I'm going to buy an even more powerful 127x38mm Delta fan to attach to the stock heatsink and see if that can drop my temps to at least under 60°C.

I'll continue playing games as I have been for many years. Despite what everyone thinks, updates aren't required to continue using the OS. I haven't installed a single windows update at all in 10 years intentionally and I never intend to. Other than service pack 1. I could care less if microsoft never releases updates again. It doesn't effect anything and I can still run any game I currently own or any future DirectX-11 (or Vulcan) game with or without updates. I have a second computer in the other room I occasionally boot to play some older games that still runs Windows XP 32-bit today, even years after microsoft "Stopped supporting it". I even have a copy of steam that works 100% for XP and never updates. Everything still works perfectly fine. It can still install any game from my steam library as well. I also have an older machine that still runs Windows 98 SE too. It still works just fine as well, even in 2019.

Heat is a non-issue. I have a large custom water loop with 4 radiators and 15 fans. My current 1080 Ti is always < 50c at all times even under the most demanding games. Even running @ 2012 Mhz core & +700 Memory. Most of the time gaming my 1080 Ti usually runs in the 35c-37c range under load when gaming for the games I commonly play lately. Also if you're pushing 1.200v then you're probably using the XOC Bios, yes? You shouldn't be using that on air cooling. You're most likely going to kill your card very soon if it hasn't already. XOC is for water cooling only.

The only game it isn't stable in is Dying Light (the only game in which I have to underclock my memory to overclock my core). In some games I have to reduce my memory overclock. I only play a handful of games though (GTA V, GTA IV, Dishonored 2, Dying Light, Resident Evil 7, RE5).
