Look at what the Titan V achieved with ~43% more shader cores (albeit clocked a little lower) and HBM2, while the 2080 Ti only has 21% more cores. If you're expecting it to be an even bigger gain over the 1080 Ti than the full Volta GPU then you may want to lower your expectations to not be completely disappointed. Titan V has more GFLOPS than 2080 Ti as well. Volta/Turing aren't so vastly different that you can't compare those metrics.

So it doesnt look like it will dethrone V?

Well comparing specs, it does appear to be worse. Still curious of how NVlink will function as I cant find anything on it from the conference.

I would set my expectations at it matching the Titan V or slightly beating it depending on how the GDDR6 compares to the HBM2 and how the cooling compared to the V's blower fan help it boost higher.

But hey if they can manage to pull off performance gains like the Infiltrator demo without the use of dedicated hardware like the RT or Tensor cores then I'll be amazed.

I'm custom loop though, so will need to wait for a block. I'm almost thinking of cancelling and waiting until a block is actually available to buy but then I'm worried about the damn thing not being available anywhere.

ANY info on blocks for these things yet?
I can't find it in amazon, can you post a link pls. Thanks.

Exactly. While there are some changes, parallel int vs float ops are not doubling the performance.
NVidia is using some smart and dirty marketing to sell what's not there.

At the same clock and same core count, those cards should not be faster than 5%. Now, compare 2070 and 1080Ti or TITAN V vs 2080Ti.

Being careful with expectations is highly advised.

This is probably part of their marketing tactic too. TITAN V performance at only 1/3 the cost! Even faster in the limited number of games that support RTX! If you compare the 2080 Ti to 1080 Ti then it is incredibly overpriced, compared to the TITAN V it's a bargain.
