With the 1660 out and the 1650 due out in march you do have to wonder if there higher end 16xx cards in the works.

Literally this. Everything else is a side grade or downgrade tbh.

The 2080 generally performs better, and if youre really dying to DLSS and trace rays....sure go for it. Probably just a side grade as others have said. Unless youre willing to pay for a 2080ti, there isnt a reason to be upgrading GPUs every generation. Every other generation, at best, and t hat applies to all hardware, even less often for CPUs Id say. Im someone that only recently upgraded from SLI gtx580s, from 2011 i think it was. And those held their own until very recently for me. Theyre still passable, but the driver support in games was just aboout done so it was time to upgrade from sandybridge anyway,

It would kill the RTX lineup. Price drops are more likely before that happens.

I can't know Nvidias price policy but they seem to have some problems producing 2080 ti and there vill not be any competition for them until possibly next year when Intel and AMD should come with new high end cards. This year AMD comes only with middel/low end cards.
Maybe Nvidia comes with new cards with more memoy and "old" cards would go down a bit, but they have no reason to do that.

My expeitation for next year is 40-50% more speed. And prices would fall about 30% , so faster but not much cheaper. Not as much as we would like anyway. And that is my optimistic guess!

I am getting ready to do a new build but I am thinking of just keeping my present pair of 1080Tis in the new build for now.

Rampage IV BE, i7 4930k, AX1200i, H100i, 32 Gb Corsair Dom Plat, 2 ea. EVGA GTX 1080Ti SC2's in SLI Surround, Samsung 840 pros in RAID 0 for boot and main programs, Raptor iTb for storage (other storage on separate server, Case 900D, other normal stuff.

Price point is and always will be about supply and demand. You want to complain about the going rate of anything labeled Ti go find a crypto miner and Beotch slap them. The 1080Ti doesn’t have RTX and their prices doubled thanks to miners. As of right now the 1080Tis prices are right up there with the 2080Ti. Miners are after cuda cores. I wouldn’t buy a used 2080ti as you are buying someone else’s problem or their binning left overs. If one wants to settle for second best drop the Ti and cuda cores/vram etc and go with it.
