They denied warranty because it looks like an ashtray and not dusty.

yeah, you can see the Hallmark cigarette dust all in the fan. I can smell it from here. Still, it's so damn old that all they're gonna do is recycle it.

I'll bet they honor it on the next send as long as he takes the time to at least get the tar off the blower. Hopefully it ends up in a different technicians queue too, so they don't bounce it on extreme technicality.

Please understand though, that the stink of cigarette voids warranty - so think about that before lighting up around your next card.

You've heard it here first, from someone that deals with returned user hardware often. also note that we'll send lower tier stuff to someone that sends back nasty hardware.

R.I.P. Zawarudo, may you OC angels' wings in heaven.

I wouldn't have accepted it either, so good on EVGA. Disgusting. Couldn't you have, at least, gave it a wipe over before sending to them? I'd be embarrassed to send anything back in that condition, more so with sticky nicotine build up on it.

Wouldn't have given you an RMA either, and rather surprised that they have.

Your obviously not the type to bother otherwise regardless, else you wouldn't be bragging on a forum about it either.

Shocking.
Thankfully what you would have done is irrelevant.

I'm not sure how you think I'm bragging.

You miss the point. Had there been any documentation whatsoever that this is an issue, I wouldnt have smoked around the PC and would have cleaned it before sending it in (I literally had supplies in hand).

In general, I'm sure. In this case (and not to beat a dead horse) there was no stipulation about that in the warranty.

However I genuinely appreciate the information you've provided and your taking the time to post (+rep)

I probably won't be smoking anywhere near the new GPU. At the moment it doesn't seem worth the downtime and aggravation.

Regardless, if that's the case, it should be in the warranty terms. Edit: Had it been in the terms, believe me I would have smoked away from the PC

Usually, maybe. But they've definitely gone downhill. You only need to look at their warranty forums or even here for evidence https://www.overclock.net/forum/69-n...or-wear-8.html
I am a smoker and I do not believe you. ;P

Fortunately my system is across the room built into the entertainment center and no smoke reaches it.

Do you know what tar is?

"Inadequate ventilation" is a pretty broad term, which I think it reasonably falls under

You can always tell when computer equipment comes from a smoking environment.

Is this still broken?

Where is tar mentioned in the warranty that pertains to this GPU?

Had such a provision been included, I would not have smoked near it from day 1. That's the point.

I hope so. I have to send them pics to get approval on the condition before I even try to RMA it again, so fun stuff.

That's what I had expected. That they'd maybe throw it in a bench, it artifacts immediately, toss it in the bin. 5min. I figured they could care less about condition as long as it's not beat up, so why waste my time deep cleaning.

Not sure if joking but that's the first I'm hearing about an ozone for smoke. Interesting.
I'm going to clean with ESD brushes, air and alcohol+qtips then start with a bag full of baking soda to remove the odor perhaps.

Thank you for your input, but we'll have to agree to disagree; I would call that highly unreasonable and fail to find any relevancy there.

The tar is causing dust to stick to the blower and make it look disgusting which led to the warranty being denied.
