Lighting Z has like 300-320W limit on the LN2 BIOS unless you tweak it with Afterburner or kiss MSI's feet.
I'm sure that without tweaking the LN2 BIOS is much weaker than normal one, probably to discourage n00bs from tinkering.

I've got the latest LN2 BIOS sent to me by someone from the MSI forums (not the NDA one) and I didn't like it at all as it borked all the LED controls.

The retail LN2 bios which is on every lightning is 380W by default, with 111% adjustment in AB you get around 408W. Im using NDA one with 1000W PL so far Im satisfied, its a shame MSI wont release this bios for everyone.

Very weird, last time I asked and tried I got an entirely different response and my card was already pwr limited at 320 with sliders on max when switched to LN2 BIOS.

Have they fixed the LED controls on the latest LN2 BIOS?

My ln2 has 400w pwr limit. It's latest official through Dragon center, build date 2019-01-24.
LN2 that came with the card had only 300w limit

One beta bios was released in March to fix the issue with fans but since then there has been no development.

I've tried it with sliders up to 111 in Afterburner and at 380 (according to GPU-Z) it was already hitting PWR limits with the new LN2 BIOS. Weird.

Wow. I won't be buying a GPU from MSI anytime soon.
I have a watercooled 2080ti FE. Haven't had the guts to flash the bios for the little bit of FPS i'll get. Not to say that I never will though, and I never knew MSI was so restrictive with their GPU's. The fan thing is rediculous.

The whole power limit jokery is Nvidia, not MSI themselves. Lightning Z is still a top tier GPU with an amazing performance when you consider it's air cooled.

Update:
After testing for a few days Ive found out bios : 90.02.17.40.89 is the best bios, why ? It supports Afterburner extreme BUT most importantly it doesnt have !No Fans bug" or "Safe Mode bug" ! ive run the card on water without issues. Im also using shunt mod to increase power limit from 400w to around 600W (dunno exact value, on 1.1V core voltage and time spy i get only 200w power consumption since the shunts "tricked" power consumption watcher.)
Download bios here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q6I...ew?usp=sharing
Please share your results with me so I can improve testing etc in the future, thanks.
