New GPU to replace GTX 1080

I have been looking to replace my GTX 1080 for a while but i have always felt the RTX 2070 while having an okey price was not all that much faster and the RTX 2080 while fast enough was way overpriced

Now that the RTX 2070 Super is out i have been looking at that and thinking maybe thats a better option than an RTX 2080/2080 Super?
While i can spend money on an RTX 2080 Ti i dont really want to since i dont feel like playing games all that much anymore and when i do its for the most part older games

What i am looking for is a GPU that can play Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Ashes of the Singularity Escalation at about 60-70 FPS or faster in 1440P but without having to spend an arm and a leg
Those are the two most demanding games that i own right now and i just want to play those a little bit better than the about 50 FPS i get now

What i am looking for is a card fast enough without having to spend more than i need to so is the RTX 2070 Super the way to go or do i really need to spend the money for an RTX 2080/RTX 2080 Super or even the RTX 2080 Ti

By the way i also do video editing and movie ripping so that factors in too
If anyone has any thoughts i would like to hear them thanks

Edit: i live in Denmark by the way and i would like to spend 5200 kr max so these 3 cards is what i am looking at

My go to site i always use is very slow so if they dont have anything updated by next week i might use komplett instead

Wait until September when prices have stabilized. Navi 5700 custom cards should be in stores by then along with NV Super cards that aren't in stores really yet either.

Then look at value and features you want. It's hard to tell right now how prices will turn up for sure but it's likely to be a wash between 5700 XT and 2070 Super price wise on custom cards. If you need good HW encoder support, use apps with CUDA, want ray tracing GPU acceleration, ... then you're likely left with NV.

Another options is to drop those stupid ultra settings and use medium instead in games etc. I always fine tune each game as I know what the settings do, compare screenshots when I want to see the precise impact. Most of the high-ultra settings in game are only raising complexity of compute while not really giving that better visuals worth the high perf. cost. Things I always max out are textures, texture filtering, model details, aka the good old stuff. But shaders and effects you can totally skimp on and lower them a lot to gain good performance with minimal visual impact, always turn off bloom, motion blur, lens effects, dirt, ...

I do like Navi 5700 XT but I still don't think the pricing is correct to be competitive enough. And you do give up a lot of features compared to Turing.

I have the RTX 2070 which costs around 485 EUR now, my precise model, but other models are as low as 430 EUR. It's a solid card for 1440p but going from a 1080, I would likely not bother, it's a little faster than 1080 now but it's not much is it.

The pricing of GPUs have not changed much at all due to price fixing, they launch new GPUs at same old perf./price = value, so while GPUs are more powerful they also cost more and do not bring better performance to lower price segments.
If you can I would really hold out for 7nm next Navi and NV cards. They should also have HDMI2.1 hopefully DP2.0 too.

The Armor cooler from MSI on 2070 is direct contact for GPU and works well. Even the MSI Gaming cooler isn't bad and has similar design and maybe a little better cooling performance/capacity.

RTX 2070 Super is about 15 to 25 FPS faster in 1440P so yes its not a huge jump in FPS but its still something
As for AMD they dont support Nvidia G Sync which my PG279Q has and i would like to have that option so AMD is out for me

Looking forward i would like to be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out
I dont mind waiting untill september if prices will be getting better

I was hoping for a long time that that the 2080 would be around 5500 kr but the cheapest card i have seen is around 5800 kr and that was a very basic card

We dont have the 2080S in hand yet. Its supposed to fill in the $700 segment. I wouldnt even consider the 2080ti at this point.

Just to give you an idea that price converted is $1466,75 US so yes i am NOT paying that much

My max i want to spend 5200 kr which is $781 converted
If the RTX 2080 Super is that much better than the RTX 2080 i might go up to 6000 kr but i dont feel like spending that much for a GPU

Only reason why i have a GTX 1080 is the GTX 1070 i had was broken and the GTX 1080 had a price drop right after that so the price was almost the same
Otherwise i would still have had a GTX 1070

Wait for 2080 Super custom cards and see how prices shake up then, set price watch alerts for interesting non Super and Super cards.
Also another thing I tested 1-2 days ago again is does Navi support 8k60 VP9 and 4k60 HDR VP9? Because from the marketing slides it didn't really seem like it does.

From a slide on TechPowerUp:
Navi 5700 series, decode:
VP9 4k90, 8k24
HEVC 4k90, 8k24

That is pretty lackluster.

Here let me try my 2070 again and see how much decoder load there is.

VP9 4k60 HDR: 1402MHz 31.6% decoder load
VP9 8k60 SDR: 2053MHz, 73.6% decoder load

So Navi could probably decode the 4k60 HDR but not 8k60.

This is what YouTube offers (VP9 4k60 HDR, 8k60 SDR), not some fancy pants stuff, I mean it's fancy but it's mainstream by now when it comes to video playback/streaming from web.

There are a lot of smaller things/features that NV has and AMD still struggles with that play into the value despite 90% of OCN only caring about their Crysis 3 fps.

For something like CP2077 I would definitely wait for more cards in stores at least custom 2080 Super and see prices drop. While performance wise if you want ray tracing or high fps 1440p it's likely going to be similar to Metro performance. Aka you would need 2080+ like performance, 2070 Super minimum aka 2080.
By the time CP2077 is out there may already be newer Navi and 7nm EUV NV cards. I would say buy for what you need now not in future.

2070 OCed is around 10000-11000 graphics score in Timespy for reference.
Most games are CPU limited when it comes to high fps 144+. Only non AAA games tend to run into 200-300+ fps on good looking engines or esports games on old Source engine, with destruction etc. looking good graphically but ultimately not as complex and as bloated behemoth engines.

So skipping the whole RTX 2000 series might be a better idea?
The only thing i have plans on playing is the new 2,3 version of Imperial Civil War Mod which is a mod for a game from 2006 so not really all that demanding

Yeah, you could skip the Super series. I suspect both sides will come swinging for 2020.

The sad thing is a gtx1080 is already so powerful, there's hardly any choices upwards, and these prices are crazy. I'm not upgrading again until prices really drop for once, otherwise I could buy a car and drive that.

Well, there is a gaping hole in the $700 segment. I'm sure something can fill that spot. I suspect Nvidia will be first to do so, but AMD may pull another Vega VII.
