Time to upgrade my watercooled GTX 980?

Hey everyone,

I'm still rocking a EVGA GTX 980 SC and feel its time for an upgrade.

Question 1 - What is a good card to upgrade to for use with a 1440p 165hz monitor? RTX 2060 SUPER / 2070 / 2070 SUPER?

Question 2 - None of the RTX 2060 SUPER / RTX 2070 SUPERs seem to have water cooling support. Is it a bad idea to go back to air cooling on the GPU? Its been a long time since i used air cooling.

I want it to be a good upgrade, but not crazy expensive as im a casual gamer these days.

Cheers

You can play almost all games with 60 or more FPS with a 2070 Super in 1440P some older games runs far above 100 FPS
I bought an RTX 2070 Super not long ago and i have been working on testing it for the last few days so i have quite a few FPS results from a number of games both old and new

I bought an MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio and the highest i have ever seen the card hit was 69c after a whole day of benchmarking in a very hot room so you dont need to liquid cool an RTX 2070 Super like the Gaming X Trio as the cooler is more than good enough for the 2070 Super

Thanks for your reply mate.

This is the exact card i am looking at getting. I've actually seen a waterblock for it so i could get a block for it later on if i really wanted to.

Would you say the MSI RTX 2070 SUPER Trio Gaming will be a big step up from the GTX 980?

I never had a GTX 980 so i dont know how fast it was but i did have a GTX 970 as well as a GTX 1070 (was broken) and a GTX 1080 and the RTX 2070 Super is far better than the 970 and still a bit better than the GTX 1070/1080

I do have all the benchmark numbers for all of my cards written in notepad files so if you send me a PM i can send you the text files with all FPS numbers between the 4 cards if you want to compare
I am not finished with the RTX 2070 Super yet so i dont have all the results for that card finished yet i still have 24 games left to test out of over than 50 so little over half finished

That is a thing of beauty!

How is the performance compared to the 980 SLI? I used to have SLI but sold one when the GPU market went mad.

How did performance change once that card was under water?

SLI is pretty much dead on most titles now. That is why I moved to the 2070 Super. I think that it still beats out the 980. Finding anything but a used 1080ti is guaranteed, I would buy a new 2070 Super and wrap it. I didnt use the stock cooler, just put the block on it and ran with it.
