Any way to fix a bad 2080Ti FE?

Hi all,

First time posting here and currently I am a not-so-happy owner of an 2080Ti FE.

Long story short, I purchased an 2080Ti FE from a secondhand market. When I got it, it was brand new and sealed, I opened the seal and inspected the card before paying.

It was running fine for a few weeks (normal stuffs, very little load) and until I put it to 100% load, it failed. I thought it was my computer's problem and did quite a bit of troubleshooting including new drivers, reinstalling Windows Pro completely, etc. After swapping the video card with another computer confirmed that it was the 2080Ti's problem.

I contacted Nvidia (it is a FE card) and they had me run "VideoCardStabilityTest" software, and it failed after a couple minutes of testing (only the application failed - reporting as stability failed, but everything else still works, including Windows, display, etc. Nvidia confirmed it was the card's problem but told me that warranty was not transferable. I was not able to contact the original seller, and the cutout receipt from the seller that I got with the purchase was not enough as per Nvidia.

I downloaded MSI Afterburner and tuned both core and memory frequencies all the way down, and the stability test would run for 60-100 minutes before failing, but it still failed (only the test, I can still close app, Windows and display were still go, etc.)

I am now stuck with a 2080Ti that cannot be pushed, or a very expensive paper weight. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

responsible adult thing to do: buy a new card, tough luck.

no so responsible thing to do: buy another FE 2080 Ti, put your broken FE 2080 Ti in the box, return as defective.

if you decide on the latter at least don't do it to Joe Blow on eBay.

if its an EVGA card, you can RMA it.
also sounds like it wasn't actually brand new. just repackaged.

So the box it came in was an nVidia box?

Who was the card bought through? nVidia directly?

Hi,
Don't buy used or second had cards from anyone except evga

EVGA is the only manufacture that will transfer a warranty if the original owner does a little prep work if already registered by them.

With a policy like what nvidia has I have no issue buying the same card and switching it out with the bad and rma'ing it.
Few items that need to be swapped out too if different is anything with serial numbers that match the box.

Since you can't contact the seller (he probably knew what he was doing) and since its a Founders Edition and Nvidia them self declined to help you, your SOOL. How did you buy it? In person or online using a Credit Card? In the US I remember they cover fraud or damaged things like this I recall correctly?

You guys are jenky recommending the switcheroo lol.

That's a tough pill to swallow for sure. I agree with thrasher, if the card is not just something cheap and I'm going Nvidia. I really try as hard as I can to get EVGA. They've never let me down.

Well, if RMA and Return are completely out of the question, take it apart and look for physical damage. Check to see all thermal pads/pastes are making proper contact.

Lastly, you can always try baking it in the oven.

Asus Prime Z370, Intel 8700k @5.0Ghz, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16GB @3400 CL14, Watercooling: x2 MCP355 pumps, x1 280 on front of case, x1 360 on top of case, x1 140 on back of case, x1 240 on bottom of case

Given how strict Nvidia is, I would assume they validate the serial number of the "DOA" card against the new FE?
