i must say... I swapped out my HD 4850 for my 8800GT since the 4850 was giving me way too many driver hassles in Linux, and wow... It worked out of the box, without anything more than an Envy driver install, and wow, the Compiz settings make my system so beautiful and bring a whole new dimension to Mint that i had completely forgotten about...

I'm actually thinking of selling the 4850 and grabbing an SLI mobo and doing more with this 8800GT, or even just getting one of those 9800GX2's when i go to the States for Christmas with a new mobo... i know for certain i will be volt modding it pretty soon... given all the crud i've been flinging at them, and all the hassle they've been having recently, i must say, their cards do work well - call this a lesson in the futility of fanboyism...

nVidia, i eat my words...

I'd say sell the 4850, and, since you already have the 8800gt, just get another and put it in sli. You could get the 9800gx2 if you have the extra money, but a second 8800gt is better performance for the money.

Didn't really understand this downgrade until I read Linux. Yeah, in Linux it's better have an nVidia card. Enjoy

My CPU history
Main rigs: 386 33mhz > 486 DX2 > Pentium 90 > Pentium 3 666mhz > Pentium 4 1.8Ghz > AMD Athlon 2400+ > AMD Sempron 3000+ > Core 2 Duo E6300 > Core 2 Duo E8400 > Core 2 Quad Q9550 > Core i5 3570k > Core i7 7700k
Secondary: AMD Athlon 4000+ > AMD Athlon X2 3800+ > AMD Phenom II 940 > Pentium G3258 > AMD A10 6800K

Even though I have always been an ATI fan, I ONLY recommend nVidia cards to my customers who use linux. Drivers work. "."

He can't SLI with his motherboard as he stated..
I won't say anything, because it will just turn into a thrashing thread.
I go with whatever that works.
But I'm glad you are having no problems with your new video card.
