Hello there,

I used to run a 9800GX2, which sadly died on my. (red lines all over the screen, 8 bit colour and crashing under load, 1 side of the card was CODE43 in device manager)

So anyway, I'm considering baking my 9800GX2 in the oven for a little while to see if i can get her working again.

I have already turned this:

Into this:

My question is on whether the little thermal pads (pictured below) can be straight replaced with thermal paste, or do i need to re-use the pads?

i think it will be best if you can get a new Thermal PAD.

also I dont think Thermal Paste will work since Thermal pad are used for those chips with big gap between their heatsink..

Typically the thermal pads provide spacing that thermal paste just won't cut. You can always buy new ones though!

I got mine from www.petrastechshop.com, awesome gel thermal pads. Cut then near exact size of the chips, and they fit just great.
