1. when you turn on the PC, does it's fan spin at full load and sound like a hairdryer for a few seconds?

2. as compared to the 8800GT, is it quieter (at load and idle)

Miki, re Boxxy; She's totally adorable, who could not like her? I know, I know, some find her annoying. But, I think they are just boring so their opinions don't count.

1. No, and if you have noise problems you can control it with MSI Afterburner

2. It depends on your fan configuration. At load it can be quite loud (75% fan) but it doesn't bother me.

AFIAK, the 'whoosh' moment when you boot depends on the motherboard.

Yeah i recently got a 470 and my card make a "Whoosh" noise for like 1 second on boot but idles right back down. Happened with my ATI cards as well. So yes, i guess it depends on the motherboard.

1. nope.

2. at idle yeah its pretty quiet. not extremely quiet but it wont bug you. at load however, it will sound like a jet engine so i'd get some headphones if i were you.

the noise dosent bother me, so i crank it up to 91% fan speed all the time.

I set a new auto fan speed profile in Afterburner, made it way more aggressive. Gets up to around 80% fan speed in BC2 and seats itself at 74c.

Head. Butt. Seperate yours.

Starting at 80% you hear the fan noise, but at 70% its not bad.

last question.

would it be a waste of money at 1440x900, on my rig (with an unlocked CPU at at least 3.2ghz)

point would be to play Crysis on max settings, and handle any game that comes out for 2 years with at least 8xAA and 16xAF

at that res i would just get the GTX465 and unlock the cores if you want.

Car: 2007 Fiesta ST - Many many mods, to have ITB's at some point.
