Predicament, OC or not?

Long story short I bought the EVGA 980Ti about 2 years ago.

2 weeks ago I decided after 2 years of not thinking about overclocking it I would give it a go. I done a ton of research and took the slowest and most efficient way possible.
I was adding 10+ on the core clock after every successful benchmark playthrough. After about 100+ and hours of testing my PC just shut down and wouldn't turn on with the GPU plugged in.

When the GPU died I went through the process of getting a new GPU via RMA. It came today.

My question is now do I attempt to OC again? I have 187 days warranty left. The thing I don't understand is people are telling me OCing will not harm my GPU yet it broke my 2 year old GPU and I didn't even do anytthing excessive.
Should I OC or just leave it? And what do you think broke my previous GPU?

look, more heat, more voltage = smaller life span. i see no point overclocking it if u have playable frame rate in games u play. 10fps more and brag rights about my card runs at that and that clock speeds is ''cool''

example, 1080ti @1700mhz and 2100mhz, fps diff is 10fps.

who knows why ur card died. it dosent have to mean, its cause of oc u run it on but it could be. if you have no fps issues, leave it be. it will run cooler and longer. when time comes you gpu starts to strugle at some games and you really want it to run at specific settings, then go oc it, if those 10fps gonna do the job for u.

btw enjoy brand new gpu lol. 2 years later ^^

Precision X/Afterburner gives you so little control over voltage it's going to affect the life span 0%. Your CPU doesn't drop years off its lifespan because it gets 1.305v instead of 1.3v vCore.

Even if it did - you can OC without adding voltage. Hell, you can reduce voltage and OC.
