In the end I decided neither the GTX 680 or 7970 overclocked were good enough for me to maintain the smooth gaming I want with 120hz, so decided that 7950 CF was a better option for that for the extra money.

So now I have coming 2x 7950 OC @ 900mhz. They should be fast enough, but if I want I should be able to push them a little further. I hope that this setup will last a couple of years at least.

Rofl! Yeah, this... or a lightning GTX 680 with 4gbVRAM when they're out.

Thadeous: Courtney, will you make funny faces to entertain me?

[Courtney makes a variety of weird faces which causes Thadeous to clap with glee, until he gives a smile in the shape of a triangle]

Thadeous: No! Never triangle-face! I *hate* triangle face! It scares me!

Errr... OP, I'm glad you're happy with your purchase, but what you got was a huge overkill. A single 7950 can hold 60 fps in BF3 and almost anything can hold 120 in CSS. :-/

For 60fps yeah... But then I wanted to get as max possible fps near my 120Hz refresh rate instead and the only way was to go crossfire.biggrin.gif

For the other games you are probably right.

SLi GTX 680's if gaming at 1440p/1600p or above.
Single GTX 680 if gaming at 1080p/1200p.

The 7970 is a nice bang for the buck GPU but AMD's drivers don't have the features/stability Nvidia' does.
