[AdoredTV] Nvidia Kills FreeSync, Intel "Meets Competition"

As much as I dislike the guy, I thought this was a pretty unbiased and well-made video. I suppose it provides enough material for discussion, and it also highlights something we've been seeing and talking about recently: the CPU market is going to get very fun and competitive, while the GPU side of things is not optimal for the consumer right now. Jensen, as usual, likes to maintain a tight grip on the industry, for better and for worse.

I see 6870 situation repeating again.
Theres no reason to buy a 2060 super when a 5700xt gets closer to a 2070s while costing less and being the same architecture of a ps5.
Yet people buy nvidia.
Ryzen is 3% slower in gaming while being significantly faster in production workloads, costs significantly less and has a better upgrade path?
People buy intel.
We deserved and will deserve market stagnation.

Why do they even make gsync only monitors when free sync works on both brands thanks to AMDs open source... I love Nvidia drivers, but stuff like this makes you wonder if they devote time to make AMD drivers suck. -Dale Dribble aka Rusty Shackleford

G-sync monitors are very different in some ways, so they're not exactly the same; maybe in theory, though.

But, with this, apparently, there are no Freesync monitors on the market. Less knowledgeable customers may be led to believe they need to get an nVidia card in order to have access to VRR on the Freesync monitor of their choice.

This only further proves that all the bull we were fed by the press and some users on these forums over the years was either utterly ignorant or ill intentioned. Or both, because with how stupid people is getting these days you can never be sure.

- You can't have Adaptive Sync without a super expensive scaler.
- The hell I can't.

It also adds another chapter in the open standards and free source book of "How cooperation is always better than competition".

FreeSync only works on AMD cards last I checked.

Edit: FreeSync isn't open source.

Qualcomm used to call theirs Qualcomm Q-Sync now they refer to it as Qualcomm Adaptive Sync: https://www.qualcomm.com/news/onq/20...ng-experiences

How are DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync and Radeon™️ FreeSync technology different?

DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync is an ingredient DisplayPort feature that enables real-time adjustment of monitor refresh rates required by technologies like Radeon™️ FreeSync technology. Radeon™️ FreeSync technology is a unique AMD hardware/software solution that utilizes DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync protocols to enable user-facing benefits: smooth, tearing-free and low-latency gameplay and video. Users are encouraged to read this interview to learn more.

Sure. Free-Sync = G-SYNC Compatible. If the monitor only says A-Sync then all is good. If G-SYNC Compatible is there then Free-Sync should be there especilly if they monitor has been certified for Free-Sync and had Free-Sync branding precisely.

Looking at Asus' website FreeSync is still listed. They also still have a link to AMD's FreeSync page.

Yes but you really have to dig deep. In all honesty, AMD needs to do something about this.
