So every Wednesday EVGA has their midweek madness where they have a sale on all their B-Stock items. So at midnight (3AM in my time zone) you refresh the page and try and snag a good deal before their website crashes or the bots snag everything.
Last week I managed to grab two 980ti's for $60 each.
Slapped them in my Plex server (it's the only air cooled PC I have at the moment) and fired up [email protected]
Everything was looking good. While capped at 90% power limit in afterburner they were estimating a bit over 1.6m PPD. I noticed the machine was off a couple hours later. Tried to turn it on and PSU just clicked. Did some troubleshooting with no luck and decided to swap the PSU. Threw in an old thermaltake I had laying around and PC briefly tried to turn on before a nice pop and flash followed by the magic smoke coming out of one of the 980ti's. Yanked the power cord from the PSU and let it sit for a bit. Pulled the dead card and the system booted fine with the other one. Now it's RMA time for a GPU that I used for less than 3 hours.
