If numbers and $$ are any indication, it's not even close. WoW.

I've been playing games since the Atari days but the one I held the most dear was Final Fantasy 7. It just caught me at that right time, full of content and a great story. Favorite online game for me would have to be Never Winter Nights...the original...with the user made modules, wish I could have that experience back

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and Faxanadu for my NES
And with no doubt in my mind Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom on my Genesis.
Baldurs Gate for sure, that was my 1st real deep delve into pc rpg's. Also Morrowind is in there for me, I dumped well over 1k hours into that amazing game.
DAoC for mmo's I adored that game, the pvp system was right on, counter/reactionary moves just made me happy.
Fallout 3 took me by surprise and stole my brain for many hours for something a bit more recent, oh and MAKAI KINGDOM, dunno how I ran into that one but man I loved it =D

It's not necessarily my favorite game, but I consider Dragon Age: Origins to be the best game ever. It's just one of the most ambitious, largest scale, and least flawed games out there. It combines Bioware's industry-leading storytelling formula and character development with great exploration/adventure gameplay, along with very strategic RPG mechanics. Hardly any other game series has such a vast amount of lore.

Attention to detail is just on an unrivaled level; no other game has a story that reacts so differently to your decisions and your character race. The six playable origins is a thing of legend. 300+ hours of content/replay value. It's a once in a lifetime game, they'll never be anything that can compare.

Mass Effect uses the same formula, but spreads itself out across three games. Play them all. thumb.gif

Nostalgia, but I'll bite...

The game I thought was the best (imo for it's time and was even ahead of it's time in some ways) is Phantasy Star Online. I just loved the storyline, the fact that you could play online on a console, the endless loot hunt, and hundreds of quests to do. For 1999, it was amazing and the graphics were pretty damn awesome as well.

If I had grown up in a different time, obviously my answer would be different. It all depends on your childhood and what games you grew up with.
