Best PC racing sim?

I'm in the mood for a sim like racer for pc, whats the nearest to gran turismo or something along those lines.

Assetto Corsa, iRacing, Project Cars 2, and RaceRoom are the biggies. Maybe Forza Motorsport 7 if you bend the definition of sim a bit since it's more "Simcade" than true sim.

iracing if you want the most hardcore sim experience and don't mind the payment model for that game, or asseto corsa if you want to just buy it and forget it and its newer.

Are you going to be playing with a controller or wheel? Some sims are very unforgiving with controllers. I had to set Asseto Corso aside until I relent and finally spend for a proper wheel and pedals.

well I grew up on gran turismo and Dirt Rally feels like a great non-cartoon game, IDK compared to other "sims"

I still want to play a modern AAA sim with Le Mans prototype cars and most those tracks would be new to me.
