New Fortnite Build

A friend contacted me last night and wants me to build her son a gaming computer, she said he's really into Fortnite. He also plays Rust, Discord, and I'm sure a few others I just don't know what.

So my question, for those that play Fortnite is, is the game GPU or CPU bound? Off the top of your key board, what would be a kick-butt basic Fortnite gaming machine?

This kid already has a computer (I don't know the current specs) and complains of in game lag. What I do know is that the current machine is a Wallymart box computer that is about 4 years old.

They also want to push VR AND to get off as cheap as possible. I've already built one PC for their oldest son (i7 7700 & 1050 Ti), now they want one for their youngest.

We will not be OCing this machine so it's going to have to be stock air-cooled what ever I go with here.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions your willing to give

r5 2600
for fortnite 1050ti will be enough but for vr you are looking for much higher build i'd advise something like rtx 2070
on amd side you would likely want to grab a rx 580 purely for fortnite and for vr 5700xt
16gb ddr4 3200mhz
b450 motherboard

the stock amd cooler is good enough even to overclock cpu but as u said u dont want to oc so it will be even more than enough.

r5-1600 4.1 1.431vcore 3020 cb20 score max temp 76.4c
amd wraith prism cpu cooler
b450m asus prime motherboard
16gb ddr4 2933mhz oc'd cl 16 hyperx ram
gtx 1660ti gigabyte gaming oc 2070-2100mhz core 6651mhz memory 68c max temp in 3dmark
