What platform to use for a 32 bit Windows XP gaming pc

I have a socket 939 rig that is my xp gamer and still runs quite well, but it's getting so long in the tooth anything could happen and I am considering building a backup.

Wondering what I should start with as the basis of the machine.
( honestly not sure all of the ones listed are XP compatible. )
My options are
AM 1 5150 Top ASUS mini ITX board
FM 2 6800k on MSI's top FM 2 motherboard A85XA-G65
AM 3 790FX with phenom or thuban ( have a ton of them)
AM 3 NF 980 G65 phenom or thuban
AM 2 790GX with 7850 dual core
AM 3 + 990FX UD5 or CHV-Z and FX 8 core

Most likely be using a 9800 GT or 9800GTX+ for the graphics card - is there much point in going with anything newer?

Planning the XP install to be on a 40 gb Intel SSD ( should be plenty for xp, yes? )with a 750 gb WD Black or 1 tb blue for game storage.

Ram - only need 2 gb right?

Also in the works is a rebuild of my windows 98 gamer - Dell XPS pentium III 733 and AGP - probably a 7600 GX or 6800GT.

Any and all thoughts , suggestions are appreciated - thanks in advance.

might get more luck pinging the retro gaming thread.

R.I.P. Zawarudo, may you OC angels' wings in heaven.
If something appears too good to be true, it probably is.
Best R0ach Quote of all time : TLDR: Haswell might be the last legit gaming platform unless mice get their own non-USB interface on some newer architecture.

What about making a "virtual machine" on your modern rig? I should look that up, but can't that 'simulate' an old OS and then play old games ?

SATA and USB 2 are garbage, so I would go with the last option.

Be honest, behind the facade of those things, the real priority is just screwing everyone over in the name of obscene profit & delaying any kind of backlash as long as possible. That's the real world.

I see that being bantered about and it's probably a good option.

The fly in the ointment is that I don't have a rig that has a good GPU for XP ( DX9) already installed in it. If I have to set up another machine anyhow, I would just plop the 9800GTX+ in there and do a proper XP install.

Appreciate the reply , thank you!

use VFIO device passthrough and the fact your GPU doesn't have an XP driver is irrelevant.

https://www.reddit.com/r/VFIO/

alternatively, this driver: https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GR...1-for-XP.shtml

I don't think you guys understand.... I'm probably not smart enough to make that work.....lol ( being honest is one of my best qualities) .

Thanks for the suggestion

Z87/97 and no later than 970/980 Ti GPU

That's the most modern setup I can say works 100% on XP.

I do have drivers in case you can't find them.

If someone knows of something more modern working, I 'd like to know.

Ryzen is out, wholly out.
