New member and newish build
Built my pc this time last year, finally decided to try and play with OC. 8600k / evga GTX1070ti / 16g of i dont even remember what kind of ram but something like 3600 with really nice lat numbers, asrock z370 extreme4 mb. You can probably tell already, im quite the amateur at this stuff. After reading up, i was able to get my processor to 4.8 at 1.28v 4.9 at 1.31, but even throwing 1.36 at it i crash almost instantly at 5ghz(hits 87 pretty quick there too). Its stable and cool at 4.8 running ~73c max. Ive been having issues with evga precision, why i didnt play with overclocking till now in fact. I did the auto tune, and it gave me a very conservative 100/150. That said, i got a noticable drop in frames. IE LoL dropped from 240ish to like 170ish. This time around i installed afterburner, now i am hitting 400+, but only sometimes, with a 220 / 450 OC, max voltage. 225 is buggy, 230 crashes, but 220 seems stable running kombuster for 20 minutes. GPU temps NEVER go over 71. I play Wow on a private server, 1.12 patch. Min graphics or max im 50-55 fps. doesnt matter if its low res or 1440, looking up, 55fps, v sync on or off makes no difference.
In a nutshell, i got 5x the difference going xmp on the ram and OC the cpu than i did overclocking the gpu, in fact, its hard to tell in game whether the gpu settings are even making a difference, but i do get less frame drops. According to kombuster, my gpu OC is good for about 25fps running furmark, 155-180, but just like in league, only sometimes. I open it one time, 155-160, another 175-180, its not making sense, i dont understand why its not pushing it harder. GPUz says my clock, ram and voltage are maxxed in any game. You would think that a 1070ti could do better than my old 2.4 pentium, 3g ram, 512gpu build back in 2003.
Is there something obvious i should check, or that im doing wrong? If you guys need better specs just let me know, pita to dig my case out of my desk, but i will if need be.
