Best Ram to use

I’m looking to upgrade my system to a I9 9900K with the Ausus Maximus XI Forumula. It’ll be under water so temps shouldn’t be an issue, just need help decideing what ram to use so I can OC the CPU past 5 GHZ
Mobo says the highest it supports is DDR4400, should I go with that or another speed?

Any help is appreciated

Hi,
Not too much bang for any higher just more complications with memory controller issues with higher frequencies

You're always welcome to max it out I personally wouldn't.

Plus stay with 8gb sticks if you can
Maxing all four slots is always hit and miss with sticks over 8gb's
I doubt many people need more than 4x8gb anyway that's 32gb's of memory

Higher frequency ram doesn't help with CPU OC capabilities, if anything it hinders it to a degree.

I'd go with whatever you think looks the best at the capacity you want that's around the 3500-3800 mark with decent timings

So something like G.Skill
F4-3600C15D-16GTZ would be more then enough.

Glad I asked before I overspent

This looks like a good recommendation.

2x8 for 16GB
speed 3600-4000MHz
CAS (latency) of 15 or 16 (this matters as much as the frequency)

Over 4000MHz gets harder to make stable in some cases.

16GB is way easier to make stable at XMP speed than 32GB (whether the 32GB is two sticks or four sticks).

Ideally get a memory set that is on your motherboard's QVL or where your motherboard is on your memory site's QVL. I find that typically the memory maker's QVL is kept more up-to-date than the motherboard's QVL, but either will probably do.

Most people here recommend sticks with Samsung B-die chips which you can see here https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/ and if you have issues with the speed, it will be easier to get help here with Samsung b-die chips.

I personally stay away from the RGB sticks because some people say they are harder to get stable, but that may or may not be true if you're not pushing them beyond their XMP rating.

[email protected] (-1 AVX offset) on ASRock Z390 Taichi with Noctua NH-D15 air cooler
CPU offset voltage of -25mv, runs VRVout 1.240-1.313V on full AVX load, 1.225-1.275V on non-AVX load
2x8GB [email protected] at 1.45V, G.Skill F4-3733C17Q-32GTZKK (XMP rated [email protected])
EVGA GTX 1060 6GB OC with Corsair RMx 750W power supply
Samsung 970 EVO 500GB NVMe boot SSD and four other drives all in a Fractal Design R6 Case

All I’m looking for is to OC the 9900k to 5ghz, maybe a little over that. If that ram is good enough for that, that’s good enough for me.

Get something on your motherboard's QVL, the CPU will hit the speeds it can do regardless of ram speed but the higher core speeds can sometimes be problematic if you're trying to use a 4000mhz+ kit. The core will be stable but the ram may become harder to stabilize. If you stick tou your QVL this shouldn't be an issue.
Or just get a nice kit of B-Die if you like to tinker with it yourself.
TLDR:
Stick your your board's QVL
Ram speed doesn't change your CPU's core's overclocking potential but your core speed COULD hamper your ram OC if it's way up there. XMP is a factory defined OC btw.
