Dead 775 setup out of loop need advice

Been on a laptop for years. My antec 900 setup has been down that whole time.

I've lost track on all updates since C2D came out.

What I am looking to do?
Looking for powerful motherboard options and capable midrange guts that I can upgrade over time to keep on edge.

I ran a pentium d 820 forever, bumped up to an e21xx, and fell behind.

I'm looking to do similar but then keep up. I had my d820 cranked to 3.7ghz. I'd like to get the most affordable, easily over locked cpu. Something capable at the stock level. Newer games at mid level settings. Girlfriend wants to stream and play sims 4.

Im far out of the loop and confused as hell. Silver, gold, i3/i5/i7... Ryzen, blah blah blah. In my day it was celeron on not, really. Lol so many options now.

Anyway I'm adding a screen shot of my ideas so far.
I have a SSD, case and psu. Corsair 600 I think, which was new as of ~4 years ago and barley used. From what I've seen, going to 1155 (300) the psu should still work?

Any and all suggestions welcome.
I know I can search and I know there are tons of these threads, but I'm at such a loss as to what's capable and not, overclockable or not, I'm just too out of the current loop to know where to start.
Thanks in advance.

Pook!? Is that the same Pook from my old p5n-e thread days?

Anyway, sub 1000 for board, cpu, gpu, ram, windows. I have an ssd / psu / case / peripherals.

it me!

your build you outlined is fine but you picked a Z series motherboard and a locked CPU so no OCing.

Here's a build with a better GPU and an unlocked CPU along with a better board with a better VRM that can handle a 9900K if you upgrade down the line:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i5-9600K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($259.99 @ B&H)
Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z390 AORUS PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($179.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA - GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB XC GAMING Video Card ($339.99 @ B&H)
Total: $899.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-02-17 21:46 EST-0500

You can grab a Windows 10 key on eBay or G2A/Kinguin for ~$20 and activate it after installation and save $80 and put that extra money towards a 8700K or 9700K or more storage/better PSU. Or just stick it in your pocket

Intel i9 9900K Coffee Lake @ X8 5309mhz (+47.5%)
AMD FX-8320 Vishera @ X4 5022mhz (+43.5%)
Intel i5 4690K Haswell @ X4 5013mhz (+43.2%)

AMD is worth a look too, but if you're strictly gaming especially at 1080p I'd stick with Intel. The new AMD Ryzen chips are likely to be fantastic though with the 7nm die shrink and supposed extra cores, so if you can wait for the rumored 7/7 launch then I'd hold on and see what they can offer.

And isn't out of the question but I just don't know enough nor feel comfortable with tweaking. Plus anything new release will be out of my budget.

Not sure on the corsair but I don't think it was that, I will look thank you.

I'm in a similar boat as you, but with less money for an upgrade. Good luck.
