i7 4790k Delided vs i7 8700k Delided (Temps)
So I have delided both CPUs, done several tests,
Case:Corsair Air 540,
Deliding compound: (Liquid Metal by Thermal Grizzly), same cooler
Custom Full Copper IHS on both CPUs from RockitCool
Cooler: Geminii S524 ver 1, with Noctua NF-F12 on the cooler.
Thermal paste between CPU cooler and CPU: NT-H1
Test: i7 4790k at 4.7 ghz 1.26 volts (stable) vs i7 8700k at 4.7 ghz 1.21 volts (stable)
Aida 64 results
At the same voltage i7 8700k will DEFINITELY be hotter on 8700k, at the same frequency.
BUT! 8700k does not require that much voltage to reach 4.7 as i7 4790k. On 4790k I ran 1.26 volts stable, on 8700k I am running 4.7 stable at 1.21!
8700k at same frequency but at 1.21 runs 10 Celcius cooler on load and idle.
I don't have a graph for 4790k, but after testing max temps were 76 Celcius in Aida64, and was hovering around 68 Celcius under Aida 64 load at 4.7ghz (1.26volts) . So 8700k at 4.7 ghz (1.21 volts) had effectively 11 Celcius drop for Max Temps compared to 4790k, and 8700k had about 11-15 degrees less on average temps under Aida64.
In games I see about 10 Celcius difference lower in comparison to i7 4790k, and that tell a lot about 8700k. Great chip!
