Build Suggestions Wanted - Budget $1,000

Greetings, All.

I am looking for build suggestions for a desktop for my son to use for Gaming & School.

Our budget is $1,000, and this does not include a monitor or Operating System (it will be Win 10).

We are currently undecided as to whether or not to use an AMD or Intel CPU, so feel free to offer suggestions including either manufacturer.

Thanks in advance for your time!

I would swap the memory for cheaper 3200mhz kit and put the money saved into a RX 5700/XT or 2060 super/2070. You can get windows 10 for like $10 also op.

I would also go for at least a 650w power supply for future proofing in case of any upgrades. 550 is a little low in my opinion

IMO 3200C16 is a better fit for Ryzen 5 3600

I would do:
Ryzen 5 3600 $200
B450 or X470 board such as Asrock X470 Taichi $160 currently / X570 Aorus Elite if future upgrades $200
* If you go for Asrock X470 Taichi you need it flashed
Crucial Ballistix sport LT 2x8GB 3200C16 (Micron E-die) $60-80 , or Gskill Sniper X Hynix CJR 3600C19 ~$80
Corsair MP510 960GB for $125
MSI RTX 2070 Gaming X for $410 until RX 5700 series comes with aftermarket cards (RTX 2070 is faster than $410+ RTX 2060 Super and the cheapest RTX 2060 non-Super cards are $330ish); less than that you probably want to look at the GTX 1660 Ti Ventus for $255 (or RX 580 8GB cards for $160-170 to wait it out for RX 5700 series or to fit a $100ish 1080p freesync monitor)
Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 550/650W ~$77
Case: Phanteks P350X $55

GTX 1660 Ti would put it at $950ish so I don't think you want to go lower than GTX 1660 Ti, considering that that's the cheapest card with GDDR6 / HBM2

► Recommended GPU Projects: [email protected] , [email protected] (FP64) (AMD moreso) ► Other notable GPU projects: [email protected] (Nvidia), GPUGrid (Nvidia) ► Project list

Its more than enough power unless there is a RTX 2080 Super / Ti in the system
With the system like it is a 550 watt is more than enough power even if you upgraded to a card as big as the RTX 2070 Super

You could fit in a much better video card if you're willing to buy used, or maybe if you stick with the stock cooler for the cpu.
