Worth an upgrade

Hi all,

My current rig is starting to feel antique but I'm not sure whether/what I should upgrade to suit my gaming needs. I mainly play sim racers such as R3E, Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally 2.0, but from time to time find myself dabbling in some more mainstream AAA games like Witcher 3 and Metro - Exodus. I also game at 1440p as I have an Asus MG279q.

Current rig:
CPU - i5 3570k with an OC to 4.3Ghz
Mobo - Asus P8Z77-V PRO
Video - Asus GTX 1070
RAM - 8GB DDR3

Due to this rig and the native res of my monitor you can see I have to make some sacrifices in visual quality when playing something like Metro to get an FPS above 60. The racing sims apart from Dirt Rally 2.0 seem to net somewhere around the 90 mark.

I was considering a Mini-ITX build and just upgrading CPU, Mobo and RAM, while leaving the GTX1070.

Proposed new parts:
CPU - i5 9600k
Mobo - ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-I
RAM - 16GB DDR3

I'm finding it hard to know what the result of this will be as a lot of benchmarks are either running at 1080p or running i7's along with the GTX 1070.

Do you think I will see any considerable FPS gain even though I am not planning to upgrade my GPU?

At 1440p you won't see much difference from upgrading your CPU with a 1070. Not worth it IMO.

What PSU do you have and yes that matters as well
As for the CPU dont bother at 1440P its the GPU that matters so if you need an upgrade buy a better GPU

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like the consensus is for a new GPU.

My PSU is a Corsair RMx 550 W 80+ Gold. Do you mean it matters because the power draw of the newer CPU will be greater than what I have currently?

Just want to note, my second PC is a 2500K @4.5 with a 1070ti. Very balanced system great for 4k gaming on medium-high settings. In high res the 2500K is more than enough. As long as you have a decent OC on ur CPU, any intel CPU from the 2500K and beyond is going to be fine.

Thanks that is good to know. I was worried that with a newer GPU my CPU might start to be a bottleneck.

Thanks mate, yeah this is definitely the range I'd be looking in. The prices for 2070 Super in AUS are ridiculous.
