Need a build (but am way out of the loop on current h/w) - please advise

Hi folks,

Haven't built a PC in a good decade or so, (been using Macbooks) but a neighbour recently asked for some advice, and I'm hoping you guys can help out!

His requirements are pretty simple; being able to run:

- Civilization 6, Minecraft
- AutoCad, TEKLA

I'd like to direct him towards quality hardware that won't break the bank (especially given that we're in Canada and the exchange rate is very poor right now).

Can anyone point me towards a few build-threads that would match these needs? I can help him assemble if needed, but if there are decent pre-built options, we'll consider them, too.

And where is everyone buying parts these days? Is NewEgg still the go-to?

Any idea on estimated budget for this build?
I usually buy my parts from Newegg, Amazon, and Microcenter.

Vin: We deal in lead, friend.
Calvera: So do I. We're in the same business.
Vin: Only as competitors.

We didn't really discuss the budget, but I think we can reasonably start with $1500 USD, and if needed, I'll tweak specific components up/down from there. This would not involve peripherals, just the main computer:

- case
- PS
- motherboard
- GPU
- RAM
- CPU
- heat sink
- SSD
- maybe DVD drive (are these still a thing?)

Am I overlooking anything?

We are located in a small town (40k people) in western Canada. Everything would have to be bought online and shipped.

Also, I should probably clarify that given that my neighbour is not overly technical, we would not be overclocking or otherwise modifying this computer. Stability and ease of use will be important factors.

Optical drives are pretty much dead and gone and fewer and fewer cases even have 5,25 bays in them anymore so if you need a DVD drive buy an external one
If you dont need a drive dont buy one like i said they are pretty much dead and gone and almost everything is on the internet instead
