If you want to use Defender, then it's up to you. Personally I don't trust it enough. Although it's also possible that you have less "need" for security due to what you do (or don't do).

Open IE on the desktop and select Internet Options
Click the Programs Tab
Pull down the Choose how you open links, options...
Select, Always in Internet Explorer on the Desktop
Check the box that says Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop
Click Apply and then OK

There you go now from the Metro or desktop screen IE opens in the Desktop version

Oh man thanks so much! That did it. I poked around in advanced but didnt think to look there.

Thanks guys

Mattousai I just recently upgraded my PC. I started off by installing windows 7, but the first install had a ton of issues (update not working, 64 bit apps not installing, flash refusing to work) I formatted and reinstalled, and once again I was having severe issues. I began to think that a piece of my hardware was defective, so I tested everything, and everything passed. Suffice it to say I was getting frustrated/angry. I decided to walk away for the night and work on it again the next day.

Another fresh install of win7 netted in issues again. I then remembered that I had a spare key for 8, so decided to try installing it instead.

A ton of caffeine and one flawless install later and I was ecstatic! No issues, everything works flawlessly. My win7 install on my old rig had always ran so great, so I had decided to not upgrade it. I'm fortunate that I had a spare win8 key.

I never had issues with 8, especially on a touch screen. I HATE metro with a KB/M though. I installed a start menu and have it boot straight into desktop mode, so problem solved. biggrin.gif
