Rasparthe If you want to keep it nice and clean, use eraser or dragonskin. Both peel off easy. Eraser is much harder to install (?!?) on the board then dragonskin which is incredibly easy. Dragonskin peels off easy as long as you take some measure to make sure some of the more sensitive openings (around the socket, PCIe slots etc) are filled with eraser or something else. LET can be tough to remove completely, if you have no plans on resell or not chance of RMA then generally I use LET.

Ease of installation : Dragonskin > LET > Vaseline > Eraser

Ease of Removal: Dragonskin > Eraser > LET > Vaseline

Effectiveness to -196C : LET = Eraser > Vaseline > Dragonskin

This is just my opinion of course. Mostly I avoid Vaseline because its easy to miss small spots when spreading and its quite the trouble to get rid of it. I use Dragonskin all the time if I'm doing DICE or Cascade, something less than -100C.

If you will be buying DICE to use later the blocks last longer, 'rice' is better than pellets if it will get used right away. 10lbs should easily be enough for hours.
This is what I do. Dragon skin is fine for DICE, but full pot ln2 can make it crack up pretty badly, I generally just use LET now so it's fine for all cooling.
A good point, I've done it in a less than well ventilated area & didn't die but the acetone can give you a pretty brutal headache.
Agreed with the amount of acetone (I start with a not full shot glass), & not looking closely into the pot when pouring/adding DICE, stuff can spit out a bit.

I'll use Ceramiq then.

So It looks like both of you think I should use LET instead of eraser. Can you explain why? I'd be okay with putting LET on pretty much anything but my UP7 because I want it to stay looking really nice (unless you have really good reasons and I change my mind).

Yeah I'll open a window.

I'm doing first time DICE as well soon. Going to try to secure some points for OCN in SuperPi 1M under AMD K10.

Not sure yet, possibly a 3570k on a Gig Z77X UP7 or a Pentium 4 520 and C2D E4300 on an ASUS P5B Deluxe (with broken pcie slots frown.gif )

That seems expensive (even in smaller quantities). I was thinking of using Arctic Ceramiq?
Never heard of it.
Not sure how the DICE will be, if its big blocks then I'll smash it up smaller.
Yeah I have tape and was going to do that because I heard about the residue somewhere. Can you find me some non-adhesive sheets on ebay for cheap? The link you posted the stuff is bigger quantities than I need and is a bit more expensive.
I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible.

Another question: How much DICE should I get for 775's or 1155's for 3 hours or so? (in a pot with thin walls and low mass)

the fumes can kill you not just the dice co2 but when you put the dice on the acetone or alcohol.
dont put that much in either just cover the bottom of the pot with 1/3 to 1/2 inch
also cover losely(enough to let air out) the top of the pot with towel as you first put dice in and watch your face too. wink.gif.

My local Home Depot carries it for much cheaper than $6 for 16 oz, think i got a gallon for less. You will also have to order a meal from your local Chinese place, you may discard the meal, and keep the chopsticks. They are prefect for stirring the pot. thumb.gif

Good luck!

I actually never tried bluetack but from what I've heard it cracks when it gets cold and isn't really suitable because of that.

Why aren't you using non adhesive sheets for the motherboard? I use 1/2 and 1/4" sheets from mcmaster.com, and they don't stick to it. I paid like $20 for a 4 foot by 3 foot sheet of each. Also, why not use tube insulation for the pot? You can get that on mcmaster too. Looks good otherwise. thumb.gif
