QAKE Really nice!!!

I particularly like the aging effects!

Did you tried to shoot (yeah, real bullets...) your case?
I think it would add something to the overall build thumb.gif

Bad Fenny Gas Mask and Power Switch

Just another quick update. I have finally finished my gas mask/power switch concept and wanted to share with everyone. As you know, I am incorporating a gas mask into the build because it is central to the game. However, I wanted it to have some function so I thought mounting the power switch in the gas mask would be a good way to incorporate it. In addition, I was going to mount the power LED in behind the gas mask to light up some of the effects I had planned. My effects were based partially on one of the game's graphics:

Now I could not duplicate the skull transitioning into a gas mask effect with any good realism (believe me I tried doh.gif) so I thought I would do the next best thing and have a skull in behind the gas mask visible through the left eye piece.

If you have been following this log, the power switch and LED will run behind the mobo and exit through a hole in the main tower which will the be covered by the gas mask - the gas mask will be attached to the case via hex bolts allowing the gas mask to be removed should I need to open the PSU ammo can.

The power switch was modified with a press button switch which would be fitted in the mask. My original design concept was to have it in the gas mask cylinder but with the placement of the medical kit wire shroud, access was not possible. So I decided to move it to the mouth piece of the mask.

So with the concept in mind I went about completing the gas mask portion . . . introducing Skully - a plastic Halloween skull we had kicking about.

Dissection of poor old Skully followed by painting

The gas mask had to be torn apart to get the nose piece out. To create the illusion of the "monster reflection" in the right eye piece, I used a green translucent sticker with the monster scene printed in black. This was attached to the back of the eye piece and covered with clear packing tape to avoid scratching the printed scene.

Once the nose piece was out I was able to drill a hole to receive the new power switch.

Final pictures with the concept in the "light of day" and how it will appear with the "power LED light" mounted behind it on the build.

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for taking a moment to check out my log.

Bad Fenny The Aging Continues - PSU and IO Shield

Hi all,

I decided to continue on my quest to age this build with extreme prejudice and turn my attention to the back of the case and the PSU. biggrin.gif

I used the same process as before - white caulking, mix in orange and brown to create the base colour and slather in on thick in the areas you want.

Once the base coats sets so it is tacky to the touch, grind in the wood charcoal - highly recommend a latex glove as this can get very messy.

Once the base coat and grime cures (approximately 48 hours) it will harden at which point it is a matter of orange and brown sponge painting to create the desired colour . . . don't forget to leave black charcoal showing which will give you that deep rusted look - Sorry the pictures look a lot more orange than they really are, the actual colour is brown/orange rust - darn camera flash mad.gif

Mounting the top exhaust fan

I decided that I would mount the green LED fan as the intake fan (front of case) as it would provide a nice green glow in the case. So I moved the non-LED fan to the top of the case.

Thanks for taking time to read my log . . . hope you enjoyed.
