Not sure if this is possible where you live, but you might want to look into metalworking or welding classes if you want relatively cheap access to a well equipped metal shop.

Not only do you get access to decent equipment, tools and machinery. But you can also get help from usually more than a few experienced people if you get stuck on a project.

You would be surprised what can be done with handtools, basic handheld power tools, a small, el cheapo drill press, and a lot of imagination.

shinji2k Sorry about the lack of progress. I just finished my second semester and a few months back I was lucky and got a job at the best machine shop in town. So between full time school and nearly full time work my hobbies have been set aside for now. Actually just the other day I was thinking about this project. Even with all the new equipment that's available to me now between work and school I'm still not 100% sure how to execute the design in my head. If I switched to some other material I could probably do it but I'd really like it to be aluminum. I take a welding class this fall, maybe that will inspire me.
