yakelkun Great thanks for the help and information source schuck6566

I just checked for the L5420 I ordered
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Xeon/I...74L5420A).html

And microcodes/CPUID seems OK :
Quote:
CPUIDs
10676 (SLARP)
1067A (QFVZ, SLBBR)
I can't wait to rejuvinate my oldest PC for these few amount of money !!

I just revived a R9 280X Asus D2CT using a hotair gun within 10 minutes of work that I will pair with this Xeon to see what games it can handle.

these two files in the list you posted should have you covered for most of the xeons (e/x5450,x5460,x5470 for example) you can look up the needed code for any cpu, I'll post a pic for an example.here's the site I use, with the e5450 pulled up.Look where it says Architecture / Micro-architecture and it'll have CPUIDs listed. http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Xeon/Intel-Xeon%20E5450%20-%20EU80574KJ080N%20-%20AT80574KJ080N%20(BX80574E5450A).html
those codes should work fine with the x5470.

yakelkun Thanks you schuck6566 for your response !

Aleas heat is a concern, so I opt for L5420 for the moment. As price is low I will maybe go for a higher CPU if it works well and if I found a small form factor and efficient CPU cooler for few euros.. (impossible I think)

I ordered 2x2GB 8DDR2 PC6400 to reach 8GB total (motherboard limit )

Now I got to be very patient as COVID and international transportation will take lot of time.

schuck6566, do you think the bios I got will support any Xeon please ?

schuck6566 I would go with a higher end e or x series xeon unless U are concerned with the heat. BTW,the first link U supplied was for a dual core cpu in case U didn't notice. If NOT worried about heat, I'd @ least go with an e/x5450,x5460,or x5470. your board handles cpu's up to 130w and all those are under that. Also, those cpu's I listed have higher end multipliers so the base clocks start out @ 3.0Ghz on the 5450's and just get higher as you move up. (x5470=3.33Ghz)

yakelkun As my motherboard has dual bios, I checked the bios using : intelmicrocodelist

And I found the patch in the .bin file

for xeon support if I'm correct.

I update the bios and taadaaa, it reboots without a glitch.

Now I got to source the good Xeon model for a low low price, so your advice is kindly requested.

yakelkun Hello,

I'm new too this 775-771 mod and total noob. I saw that with some Bios mod skills it's possible to put a Xeon on my Gigabyte EP35-D4

That's a wonderfull news as I was thinking to get rid of my beloved GA-EP35-DS4/E2180

I got x2 questions :

1) What is the best Xeon for this little EP35-DS4
I saw that Xeon sells for almost nothing...
https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32802...archweb201603_
But 80w TDP...

or L5420, 4 cores and 50w TDP is nice, 7€ !!!!!!!
https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32734...archweb201603_

but I need your help to be sure and choose the best 2020 CPU from 2008 !!

I also tried to find the modified EP35-DS4 bios that support Xeon but I was unable to source it aleas, and I also request your help.
The original latest bios file : https://download.gigabyte.com/FileLi...p35-ds4_f6.exe

Thanks in advance and long live to the 775 !!

Edit: I found a bios file with SLIC, but I don't know how to check if it's OK for my EP35-DS4... I don't want to brick my motherboard, so close to upgrade it....

Did anyone test it? L5430 is cheaper by 10$, so it's interesting not only for price, but if it even draws few watts less.

And one question about BIOS, do the moded BIOSes here (on post #201) include L5430, E5450, E5440 (i still deciding which to take)? I have Asus P5Q Deluxe, and already see there moded BIOS v2301, but what Xeons are added?

BOTH of the 45nm xeon codes from 2010 were added, along with updating the 45nm socket 775 codes. if you open the bios in MMTOOL it will show the installed microcodes under the cpu patch tab. here is the info for identifying the socket 771 xeon's from the socket 775 cpu's. L5420 cpu = CPUIDs10676 (SLARP)
1067A (QFVZ, SLBBR)
  • cpu0001067a - 1067A is the CPUID that is supported by this microcode
  • plat00000044 - plat is short for platform. This tells which sockets are supported by the microcode.
    • LGA 771 microcodes have a 4, 40, or 44 in this section
    • Desktop LGA 775 has a 1, 10, 11, B1, or 91
U might also like to try the p5q deluxe kets updated modified rom ,it ALSO has the xeon microcodes added and he made changes to the bios to better handle memory & other functions. See post # 13 in this thread for all relevant info including a link to kets thread for a description of changes he's made to the different bios.
